I believe they were hiring people for emulation as well.

I just want BC on my 40GB and if dropping the 80GB is true, then the 40GB is definitely getting software BC in a future update. If the 40GB is what's selling well and the only substantial difference is really BC, as everything else can be added by the user later, then it would make sense for Sony to drop the other models they are losing money on with less sales.

The 40GB is plenty and on par with the 360 Pro.

I doubt they can BC in a software update. If that was all it needed, it would already be included on the PS3 40GB.

not if they didnt have it finished, theres no reason why its not at least possible for the 40gig tog et BC, they just need an emulator that will emulate the graphics chip and the emotion engine, or whatever it was.

I can't see it. I mean it would simply have been based on on the software emulation used in the 60GB UK models. It can't have been massive to simply upgrade the 40Gb model using same/similar code which is already there.
It would be nice if it happens. 40GB with BC would be even better value then.

I thought Sony admitted that it was completely possible for full software BC on the 40GB it's just that they weren't interested in paying for the development.

I don't see why they couldn't just make a PS2 environment on the PS3. The PS3 is plenty powerful enough and the 360 is entirely software BC like when an original game thinks it's playing on an original Xbox.
