80GB PS3 confirmed for Europe?

From pocket-lint.co.uk:

In what we can only assume is a public relations blunder, the Sony-backed "HD World" newsletter, designed to promote the Blu-ray format, has revealed a new model of PS3 for Europe.

"In Western Europe by the end of 2008, "Understanding & Solutions" predicts average player prices (as opposed to entry level model pricing), for HD DVD and Blu-ray of $275 and $475 respectively, with the yet-to-be-launched European 80GB PS3 retailing at just over $500."

We got in touch with a Sony Europe spokesperson who stated: "The HD World newsletter is written by external sources, and the report quoted is from independent analysts. There is absolutely no 80GB version of the PS3 planned for Europe in 2008".

I have stated this before in threads, when the models spec was changed.
there will be 2 distinct models the 40GB and the 80GB which will have BC and all the features of the old 60GB.
Sony will not reveal their hand until the 60Gb is a memory.

I hope they rethink their position on not adding software emulation to the 40GB line globally. It will take time and money, but it should be a major selling point considering how many PS2s and PS2 games are out there.

"We're not interested" in software emulation is bogus. Yeah, MS wasn't interested in fixing theirs either until they realized how much people really enjoyed it and now they are still working on BC titles and offering Xbox original downloads, insanely genius cash machine.

I can only imagine PS2 downloads on the PSN store, it's a gold mine. I know I'd buy them. Too bad Sony is "not interested."  sleep.gif
