Ah, Target. The home of so many broken street dates. Just days after letting the Xbox 360 Arcade slip out of its doors early, the retailer is apparently proving that the 40GB PlayStation 3 is indeed coming to America -- and for $399.99, no less. Reportedly, the system is all set to "officially" be released here on October 28th, and while we've no way of confirming, we're hearing that it may be bundled with the upcoming Spider-Man 3 flick, too.

I think SKU pricepoints should be on the bottom of the list of things Sony needs to do to shift consumer demand.

About Time Australia had something before America!

Here in Australia we've had it in on the shelf since the 10/10/07.

Although they are being advertised as the same as the 60GB (Except the HDD) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) , I feel sorry for anyone that trades in their PS2 for one!

PS: I don't have a PS3 and nor do i want one.

Anyone who trades in their PS2 for one without researching the facts on what they buy (NO BC) deserve what they get. Nobody forces people to buy and when spending large amounts of money it is foolish to not even know the spec of the machine they are buying.

That may be, but I would still feel sorry for anyone who traded in their PS2 for the non-BC PS3 SKU, too. I've done plenty of foolish things in my life and the last thing I need is someone pointing their finger at me and saying "ha ha, you deserved that!" I can do that myself, LOL. Of course only people on XS know anything about consoles!!! Do you live in the real world? Obviously                       anyone who has never been on XS knows nothing. Another wrong assumption. In fact if anyone read your posts on the PS3 which you don't even own they could really end up confused.

This is not some obscure feature that you miss on a cheap item. This is $399 and anyone with any sense who is a current PS2 owner would not fail to check on the BC feature. It.s like saying it is not someones fault if they buy a 360 only to find out it doesn't play Nintendo DS games.

point was not everyone is in the knoe abought the system. they see there frends older model ps3 playing ps2 games. they see this cheaper one figuring the same thing get it home suprise. unless of course if its marked on the box thats its not bc like the 60gb model then yea all on them.

same thing for someone trading his ps2 in for a discount not knowing the cheaper ps3 is not a bc system. if its not clearly marked its not a bc system i guess if the retiler is nice enough they could bring it to lite but normaly there all abought the sale then anything else.

ThatÂ’s true, but when I went to Harvey Norman (Hardly Normal (as we call it)) PRETENDING I was interested in these Cheap 40GB PS3 they advised the only difference is the HDD.  But then again maybe EB Games might know what the actual differences are since they're not so dumb

Anyway my main goal of posting on the PS3 Forums was get a little bit of talk happening, because it looks like a hell of lot more happens on the 360 side.

I don't know why anyone would trade in their PS2 anyway. You barely get anything for it. Hardly enough to even get a PS3 game. Better off keeping it anyway, making BC a non issue.

The motto should be not to trust sales people. this happens throughout all sorts of equipment. I regularly see things being incorrectly described and sold by uniformed sales people, who are supposed to understand the product they are selling.
I always check on the manufacturer web site for a full tech spec etc and check various internet sources before making a purchase involving a fair amount of cash. I can only advise that others should do the same.

These 40GB Playstation's contain none of the PS2 hardware chips & offer no backward compatibility.

I was also told they contain a reduced amount of SD & USB slots.

Chancer dont get me wrong thats why i made an enquiry, cause I already knew that the NEW PS3 didn't play PS2 games etc. I see it happen all the time aswell.  I also always triple check what i'm about to buy.  I work for my cash and don't really want to waste it.
