Well it's a plus point but I doubt in the long run anyone will care too much about it. Most people have DVD players with quality playback already.
Still it gives the people who don't own a PS3 and will never buy one a chance to persist down the line of how bad the PS3 and Sony in particular are.

Thanks good it won't ship with 1.00 firmware!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

As some kotaku posters sugested  - it probably should be Blu-ray playback not DVD
New extended capabilities requided after all players sold after Oct 31

Umm PS3 DVD playback is already top of the line... I think it should read that it will get updated Blu-Ray playback maybe profile 1.1 or 2.0. It would make sense since isn't the 40GB PS3 coming out after 31.10.07 which is the date set for BD profile update and all players released after that must comply with BD profile 1.1
