you've obviously never used DirectX over long periods... about every 2 years it changes radically leaving all users dead in the water.

Dual Processor Pentium Pros have been out for a long time. Dual technology is not new.
Dual-Core may now be more accepted, but dual even quad processors on 1 system have been out for a very long time. But, there was no money in developing for them until now.

The problem is the 360 is perceived to be easier. It doesn't matter if it is or not.
Similar to DirectX vs. OpenGL. It doesn't matter what is easier, it is what will get you money.

Take the time and money to learn something, or stay with what you know. The answer is obvious.
If PS3 was smoking the 360 in sales, developers would be forced to learn for the PS3. That isn't the case.

Reality means little to people that are in charge. The people who make those business decisions, to develop on 1 platform or another, usually have a business frame of mind not development. C.R.E.A.M.

whatever! the bottom line is its alot nicer to develop for the 360 than the ps3......now MOVE ON!

 That statement means absolutely nothing.
I don't understand why you are slumming it in the PS3 section.

I agree with this however because the PS3 works great as a HD movie player, with a large amount of titles & reasonable price it's user base is bound to grow.

As a console the ps3 is extremely highly priced... so high in fact that its hurting its adoption rate and in general harming the industry.

As a bluray player its an average unit with a low to middling price (both sony & samsung have cheaper players out there).

Your still missing the point! the PS3 does both straight out of the box, high definition movies & games. It's much cheaper than purchasing a next gen. gaming machine + high def. video player.

You probably don't have a high definition TV set, if you did you would realize how attractive the PS3 is.

And the reviews I have seen rated the PS3 as an above average bluray player.

I'm not missing the point at all and I understand all the plus points of the ps3. I also understand that MOST people do NOT use their games console as a media player. Some do yes but MOST do not. Further to that the adoption rate for HiDef is VERY low thus further reducing the supposed benefits of a combined unit that is very expensive.

Most people want ps3 as a games unit, having a bluray player within it is a plus yes, but at the expense realized in the price-point ps3 entered the market at, that bluray player is currently a liability. This will change with time but right now the ps3 is barely a viable business entity... no pain no gain is definitely Sony's way of thinking... sadly they are currently feeling nothing but pain.

btw - yes I do have a HDTV.. actually have 4 around the house, only 2 of which have HD sources coupled to them but hey you can't have everything and the kids don't need or want HD right now.

Is this a personal opinion or do you have proof to backup this claim?

Have you heard of XBOX Media Center? Media Center Extender?

Videogame consoles will be the primary method of bringing digital content to home TVs and stereo systems in 2012, according to a new study.

ABI Research said Monday that it forecasts an installed base of 184 million digital media adapters (standalone or embedded devices that route audiovisual content to TVs and stereo systems) in 2012.
Game consoles will make up an overwhelming 85 percent of this installed base, while just over 11 percent will be standalone devices.

Video game consoles (is this still the correct term these days?) are great as media centers & given the chance  a large amount of people use them as that.

So if a video game console supports bluray why wouldn't the consumer buy it for this feature?

As a Blu-Ray player it actually an excellent unit. Source reviews from What Hifi etc back this up.
The Samsung is not cheaper in the UK £464 if you want one ex-stock. BDP1200. If the Samsung Blu-Ray player is anything like the quality of it's DVD player/recorders with HDMI I wouldn't have high expectations in terms of quality.(Yes I have installed loads and seen first hand.)
When I wanted a Blu-Ray player , the PS3 was the cheapest option. Throw in the other factors and it was an easy choice. It was bought as a Blu-Ray Player mainly.
The only reason people are not interested in HiDef yet is purely from a price point. That is true for both formats and also standalone HD Sky receivers etc.
People want the quality, but are not prepared to pay for it these days. Cheap electronics from China have bred into us all that Brown Goods have no value from a financial stand point.
When prices fall people will adopt the technology, just as has happened in the past. The problem is once the market is flooded with cheap BR & HDDVD players the quality will also fall.

Martin I'm not a noob, I'm a professional game developer... this comment isn't intended to qualify anything other than that I know a fair amount of the specifics, demographics & technicalities involved in game development both on the hardware level and the software level.

XBMC only runs on hacked xbox's; not a large number by any means.

My appreciation for the number of people using their console as a media player comes directly from first party given that they HAVE to release such information to publishers and I work for a major publisher. The number is low, VERY low.

PC developers do find the Xbox 360 easier to code for, because the 360, and if you remember, the original Xbox, are both based on Direct X technology. None of you (except for m_hael) even develop anything for either system. Ubisoft are full of excellent talent, so of course they are not going to say its hard to code for. Smaller/lazier/less talented developers are going to have a harder time with the PS3. I can't see how anyone can even argue that. EA for instance, is going to spit out a game as fast as they can. Which system are they going to program for? One they already know, or one they have to learn? You guessed it. And this shows in all ports they've made to the PS3 from the 360. No optimization in the visuals or gameplay. Madden could've run at 60fps, but it would've taken more time to release it, thus costing EA money. People will still buy it, they'll just come onto game forums and gripe about how it doesn't play as well. The consumers are the ones that allow things like this to be acceptable. SCE have a bunch of amazing looking games coming out because they code strictly for the PS3, where as everyone else is coding a 360 game and porting it over to PS3.

I'm in the fortunate situation where I get to make that decision... and I'm programming for ps3 first 360 second.
