So a friend brought a xbox to work that has a dead hard drive.  I had my original hard drive at home and a 40GB I had setup for mine that was later replaced with a big drive.  I was thinking I could just swap one of my old drives into his xbox and get it to boot then soft mod it.  After researching on the forums I see that we would need an eeprom reader or a modchip to fix it. Another friend at work happens to have a modchip he said he would bring in soo..

My question is once he brings in his modchip and we install it then whats next? Do I need to install some app to get th eeprom info, then take that ID and put it onto one of my spare drives?

Thanks for any info I haven't been paying attention to modding for awhile.

If you can solder a modchip then you should be able to make one of these.. I made one of these about a week ago and got my eeprom data back.. saved my arse.. ( cost about 10 bucks to make and that is a really good tutorial ) But.. If you look around I believe you can use a fake eeprom in conjunction with that chip.. then you can use a different hdd and lock it that way..

Is your spare hard drive unlocked?
if not, put it back in the xbox it came from, then unlock it with ConfigMagic 1.6 Final or EvoX dashboard.

Once you have an unlocked hard drive, do the following:

· install modchip into broken xbox
· Install spare unlocked hard drive
· Download Slayer's or Auto Installer Deluxe & burn to DVD-R
· Boot your xbox with Slayer's or AID in the drive
· Format/partition hdd as necessary and install dashboards/apps/whatever else  by using the menu options in Slayer's or AID.
· Lock the hdd using Slayer's or AID (in AID, use the application "ConfigMagic")

From here you will have a working xbox.
If you want to softmod it from here, try using CASH or AID and use the softmod options.
You can also FTP Krayzie's Ndure to the xbox, then run it.
Either way, once you successfully softmod the xbox, you can remove the chip. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
