There's been plenty of news about the price of the BR diodes dropping in price and increases in production.  That and they've been dropping the EE chips out of the PS3.  I'm guessing that even after the price cut they aren't losing anymore than they were at launch.  Of course, that's likely more than they want to be losing, but I don't think they are hurting any more than before.  If the price drop results in higher sales it's a good move in the long run.

Nintendo can go F*** themselves. Right now i pretty much hate my Wii. It's fun for a little bit but then the controls just start to piss me off. I only have two games for it right now Zelda and the Re-hash of Resident Evil 4 which i use my old Gamecube controller to play because i hate using the Wii-mote on it. Nintendo should have at least had 1080p output if they were only going to have to render the just about the same amount of polygons as the original Xbox. I wouldn't be so mad if it could do that, but it can't and not only that, it can't even playback dvd's. Helloooo it's got a dvd-rom already how hard would it have been to add a DVD channel. Plus i have to stand within 7 feet of my screen which i hate. Alright enought ranting, point is Nintendo isn't in a position to compare there price with the PS3, oooh last generation hardware with a new twist on control, whatever.

^ What does that have to do with this topic at all?

Nintendo can make that comment, because they have turned a profit on every console sold. Sony is excessively in the black. Nintendo is solely a game company, and is worth more than the entire company of Sony. Microsoft and Nintendo can both afford a price cut right now, and they have been waiting for Sony to do it. Sony finally did it, even though they still can't afford it.

Nintendo and Microsoft both have the right to question Sony's motives. As Sony has maintained they don't need a price cut, and now that they can't afford one, they make one anyway.

Sony is hurting a lot more than they are willing to admit. Although, I think this price cut is a pretty loud admittance. Last to market, first to price cut.

Nintendo's George Harrison isn't happy. In fact, he's positively indifferent:

Once Sony releases the new slim-slim sub 100$ PS2 (maybe packed with a gimmick controller) and the price of the 360 is cut to the same price of the Wii them mr. Harrison will start to get a few headaches wink.gif

Nintendo was only temporarily worth more, but that doesn't change the fact that Sony's gaming division is in trouble. However, considering what Thraxen said, if this cut is able to drive software sales then they most certainly can afford it. The E3 conference showed that things could be looking up for PS3, but pulling ahead at this point still seems quite unlikely. It still remains that if you're looking at the PS3 as a pure gaming device it's probably not worth the money right now. But if you're like me and use it for all of its other functions as well then the value seems justified.

I am not denying the PS3 is a jack of all trades and as of now, seen as a master of none. If that is what you are looking for, then buy it. You can buy a standalone Next-Gen DVD player that is better (hybrid Bluray/HD-DVD), or a dedicated gaming device that is better (PC or arguably 360), or a Linux machine that is better (PC). But, for the price of an all-in-one unit, the PS3 a great deal if you happen to be looking for 1 machine that does all 3.

My point was simply Nintendo has the right to criticize Sony. They are leading the pack, and have a view like no other.

If Sony overtakes Nintendo, they can sit back and say "Nintendo did this, this and this wrong." People will listen.
