How To Recover Data From An Xbox With Dead Ethernet?
« on: February 27, 2008, 10:49:00 AM »

I have a softmodded Xbox with an upgraded 250GB hard drive.  I put some media on it, non replaceable cds and some pictures, while between computer builds.  I wasnt quick to remove it and my Xboxs ethernet port died.  I havent used my xbox in a long time so I decided to sell it but want to recover the media before hand.  How do I go about doing this without a working ethernet port?

The obvious answer would be to replace the ethernet port but due to the complicated nature of this, id prefer it to be my last resort.  I have a wire to hook a USB keyboard up to a controller port.  Could I use this to hook up a flash drive and transfer it off piece by piece?  If this is possible, what program would I use to do this?  I can still install stuff via a disc, just no way to get it off.

Any other options?

You will need to unlock the drive. Hopefully you still have the Xboxhdm disk you made. You can use it to unlock the drive and transfer the data to another drive. Make sure the Xbox HD is set to master. You can use Xplorer360 in Windows to drag and drop files once the Xbox HD is unlocked. I am not sure if you can see the F drive with that program though.

Make sure to make an eeprom backup before unlocking the hdd.
Afterwards, do as 1hotjob said and either use XboxHDM or Xplorer360 Beta

I no longer have my original disk so I cant unlock the drive that way.  Its been awhile, but I have done a few dozen hot swaps over the years.  This method should work just as well as unlocking with the disc, correct?

So Id want to do the hotswap, boot into windows, then use Xplorer360 to get my files from the drive, return the hard drive back to the xbox, and enjoy my files again.  Right?

Right, or you could use Evox to back up the eeprom and use configmagic to unlock it. You would then need to build a new disk to lock the drive prior to putting it back into the Xbox.

Or, like you said, you could hot swap and get the files off.
