price is probably the reason for the choice of black, it's the cheapest color
i also think that price is one of the reasons for using the font. they already paid for the IP of the font and they knew from the beginning that the ps3 was going to be an expensive console to produce so they may have taken that into great consideration. it would be cheaper to use a font they already own instead of using somoene elses font or creating a new one just for the ps3

Just looked: Oh well. Sony won the rights to Spiderman in 1999. Now they can do what they want.
sony owns the rights to the movie and everything associated with it, not so much the rights to the IP spiderman itself
