Installing Hdd From Another Xbox
« on: February 20, 2008, 09:08:00 PM »

are both boards the same version? if they arent that might be why its fragging

can you boot the new one at all using its original eeprom? if you can softmod it and back up the eeprom via software, then lock your old HD with the new eeprom

if not you might need an eeprom reader to get the eeprom of the new board, then lock your HD (or pick up a modchip smile.gif )

EDIT: thought i moved this like 2 hours ago...

xbox with messed up mobo 1.4. new xbox im trying to put hdd in from 1.4 ver is a 1.0.

well thats definately your first problem, the eeproms arent compatible so you wont be able to just solder the 1.0 onto the 1.4 board

if you are able to boot the 1.4 (dont know is you have a working HD with it) then softmod it, so you can back up your eprom (you can do this with evox, no need to mess with config magic) then lock your 1.0 drive with the 1.4 eeprom using xhdm and it should boot

the only other problem you may run into is kernel-specific fonts in your softmod, if you get a black screen after the MS logo you may have to build a new C partition and copy it to your HD with xhdm or something similar

Take the eeprom.bin file from the new Xbox. Ftp it with the C and E drives from the new Xbox to the PC. Make a NEW Xboxhdm CD with those files.

Put the 60gig drive in the PC and boot with the NEW Xboxhdm CD. Go to option 3 and lock the OLD drive. Now put the OLD drive in the New Xbox. It should work. If it doesn't work, like stated before, you may need to copy new C drive files to it.

Try renaming it with all caps. Make sure you name it EEPROM.BIN sometimes if you rename it you may get eeprom but as a generic file and not the .bin file.

I would be very cautious typing in the key manually. I bricked two 120gig drives when I first started. I didn't fully understand Xboxhdm and didn't use the automatic locking with it.

Have you gone to option 6 then 7 on the menu to create the floppy? On the floppy there is a command lockhd that will search the floppy and lock the HD.
