I'm sure this is sony's fault for putting such a small profit margin on a expensive product. Sony is blaming the retailer, but if the retailer is only making $10 on a $659 purchase how is that fair to them. Just because sony smack the RRP on it doesn't mean it's a fair price for the retailer to make a reasonable profit. With only a tiny mark up, why must the retailer suffer.
Also this quote is a key sign of wrong doing on sony's part:
"some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar."
A weak dollar doesn't affect the retailer, they buy and sell their consoles in their local currency. A weaker Canadian dollar would only affect Sony's Canadian Distributor who buys the consoles direct from the Sony Japan in Japanese Yen. Obviously Sony Canada is passing on the expense to the retailer and leaving the retailer with basically no profit margin, hence the price increase.
Sony should either, reduce the wholesale cost for their Canadian distributor, or Sony Canada need to increase the RRP to allow decent profit margins so that retailers can make their bread and butter.
