Ps3 Mac Address
« on: November 19, 2006, 05:58:00 PM »

Hey all, I work for ResNet on a college campus and I want to be prepared for the new console registrations. Could someone that has a PS3 please post instructions on how to find the MAC Address of the console?

Thanks guys

EDIT: Also if someone reading happens to have a Wii, I would like the steps on how to find the MAC of that console as well. Thanks again!

Well that isn't really feasable. First off, there are literally tens of thousands of devices connected to our network. It would be nearly impossible to go through the client table and pick out every single console, identify, and register it. Secondly, the device must be linked to a student's user ID in order to be registered. So, even if we were to find all the consoles on the table, it would be impossible to know who it belongs to.

I'll explain the way we have it set up with the previous consoles.

We have online directions on how to find the MAC address of your device (PS2, Xbox, 360 ect...) which you then enter on an online registration form which gets sent to our administrator who in turn approves the additional device request which allows the device to use our network resources.

Basically, I just need someone to tell me how to find the MAC of the two new consoles so I can help dorm students find it when they call to ask how to get their console online, and eventually set up online directions for them.

Thanks for any help

the ps3's interface is similar to the PSP, therefore look for a guide on the psp. I can imagine it would be in system settings / network settings

are all college residential networks called Resnet or do we go to the same university

Haha, actually a lot of college campuses have something called Resnet. It just stands for Residential Network which manages the network in the dorms. So, no, I doubt we go to the same univeristy.

But anyway, I finally found out how to get them for both consoles. I had to go to live tech support chat on Sony's site to get it and dig deep deep in an FAQ on Nintendo's site.

Wii options --> Wii Settings --> (scroll over) --> Internet --> Console Information ...and there's your mac address.

I haven't found where it is in the PS3 though, if it is there at all....I found it thanks to my wireless router (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

EDIT: oops, looks like you found the solution.  How did you find your PS3's mac address?
