Ps3 On Display At Best Buy
« on: November 10, 2006, 08:26:00 PM »

Went to Best Buy and saw they had the PS3 kiosk up to play with a sony LCD.  The kids playing it were playing NBA 07 and I can say the graphics are pretty equal to the 360.  So if you wanna play it, go check it out.  They also had Wii on display also, but you couldnt play it, it just runs a video.  Im not really a fanboy of either system 360/sony but I will be attempting to buy a few to make a profit and maybe keep one if I make alot off one, if not I will just wait till they lower in price/fix launch console issues.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to stop by my local BB tomorrow and see if they have one.

i played at target about 25mins ago i played NBA07 wasnt that impressed jaggies were everywhere. Also not to mention it looked like crap on those samsung TV's running 720p. You'd think sony would give out 1080p to show their "TRUE" highdef. I also thought the controller wasnt that great, it wasnt as bad as people say it was basically a dual shock two with no rumble and some weird feeling triggers where the R2 and L2 buttons used to be. I would love to try it out on a properly calibrated 50inch tv from 8-10 feet back so i could get a real feeling for the system. So far i'm not feeling 600$ .I did kind of like the interface though.

My brother said the target kiosk was using a 1080P display and the game looked good.  I don't get out to Target much and the BB is a goo 30-40 from where I live so I can't say.

this target was in Nashua NH(on amherst street). The display said 720p i specifically checked when it booted up it said 720p. and NBA07 had more jaggies then i've seen on the 360. But like i said the interface was simple and pretty decent. and the console looks very nice, but i dont think its worth the extra 200$ over 360 unless you really want a blue ray player.

I just checked out the PS3 kiosk at Target, and I am equally unimpressed.  The NBA game just flat-out sucked.  The graphics were horrible, jaggies everywhere, the background was washed out, character models were bland, etc.  The Motorstorm game was better, but not anything special.  The graphics look good at first glance, but if you slow down and actually look at the environment you can see how poor it is.  Overall, this is shaping up to be a lackluster launch for Sony.  They needed to come out strong with some exclusive launch titles, but alas, nearly all of the games are already available on the 360.  Very dissapointing.

How did motorstorm play?  I heard slow, but I never got clarification on what slow meant.

Also got clarification from my brother.  He said the picture looked good, as in the display itself, but he was not impressed with NBA 07.

There isn't really a good sense of speed to me, not really that the game itself is slow it just never feels like your going fast.

I have to say that the grapics are on par with a 360.

I agree motorstorm seemed like it was trying to be a fast paced racing game (if that makes sense) but in reality it felt like you were chugging along.

Yeah when I watched the trailers that was the feeling I got.  I'll have to try and get out to a BB or target and get some play time.

Cool! I'll have to stop by either BB or Target and check it out. Thanks for letting us know!  And as far as getting a few at launch, good luck.  I wish I had the patience to stand out in the cold for 12+ hours, but I don't. smile.gif  Hopefully the Wii will be easier to come by.

Okay, I stopped by Target this evening, and saw a couple videos as well as played a bit of Motorstorm and NBA 07.  And from the comments left about this topic, I'm not going to be saying anything new.  I was very disappointed with what I saw.  The visuals were no better than the 360.  Actually, like the other posts say, I noticed a lot of jagginess in the games.  One of the guys working in the electronics section at Target was telling me how awesome and beautiful Motorstorm was so I was like, "Okay, thanks.  I'll check it out!"  I wasn't impressed at all.  Not only was the game very jaggy graphically, but it was very slow as well.  The Target display was a 720p LCD.  I don't know if the console settings were optimized or not.  Maybe it would look better on a 1080p set with a HDMI cable, etc., but should we have to have that in order to experience next-gen graphics???  I don't think so.  I will say something positive about the system.  The controller doesn't seem to be flimsy, like some reviews I've read on it, and the controls in both NBA 07 and Motorstorm were good, but as far as being better than the 360, I just didn't see it.   sleep.gif

Sounds like some of you bought in to the hype and/or had huge expectations for launch titles.

Give it some time, not every 360 title was a hit.  I remember some complaints on 360 titles, i.e. Madden.
