What To Expect At 24hr Walmart?

Hi guys...I was planning on going to a 24hr walmart to get my ps3. Question is how do they run things, do they make people wait outside or do they have a line inside? What if I go there right after work on the 16th and wait, is that too late? I have taken Friday off from work...I'm starting to wonder if I should've taken Thursday instead.

Maybe someone who got a 360 last year has an idea, I have never done this before so I'm hoping it all goes ok. Thanks....

my local walmart screwed us over, they changed up the line at or about 11pm but the final line started at the layaway center and they were sold there also at midnight, i left when they changed the line and went to cc at about 11pm and we were about 13th in line so it worked out other than having to sit outside in the cold as weather since walmart was indoors (cold in FL. too)

The Walmart where I live pretty much screwed everyone over.  It didn't matter how long people waited inside the store because they ended up having a raffle and drawing names for the system.  sleep.gif   Hopefully it will be a first come first get scenerio for the PS3.

I think that the line will start earlier in 24hr walmarts since it will be released earlier (midnight instead of 8am), and is indoors.

If it goes the way my Walmart did it with the 360s last year, people started forming a line by the layaway center at like 10 am the day before...So I guess you could start at 10 am on the 16th and hope for the best...That is if you have all that time to waste.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that people will forget about the other stores in town.

The Walmart I work at will announce where to form a line at 9 PM. The line will be inside. At 11 PM, a ticket will be given to the people in line for the PS3's we will have. Then at 12:01 AM they will actually begin selling them to people with a ticket.  So arrive early! ^^  Anymore questions let me know and I'll try to answer them.

This almost describes what the first guy went thru last year, I don't see the sense or fairness in that for people who waited all day. Unless you can keep it organized, highly unlikely but now I'm not sure.

Well I won't be able to get there till 2 or 3pm on thurs...but it looks like if there are more than 10 people in front of me it might be a waste of my time. (Besides didn't walmart get rid of their layaway recently), anyway like I said before I took Friday off but thinking now I should switch to thursday to insure I get one. I'm gonna do some checking to see if anyone will tell me anything.

UPDATE!! I spoke with a good friend who's also a manager of my local walmart. Bad news for those hoping to get a ps3. It appears a bulletin from Sony recently said that their estimates were lower than expected. Only 3-5 units would be available per store. Due to the sales flyer that states a minimum of 10 systems per store, rainchecks will be handed out.
Good thing I live 5 minutes away from my walmart. buddy and I are gonna get 2 of them. That leaves a lot of people pissed. biggrin.gif
Btw the plan I heard was to be in layaway at 7am, first come first serve, and they would be handing out tickets. You are not to leave the store unless a family member takes your place. Ps3 to be sold at 12am.

Well, sorry you guys got screwed. Looks like I'm gonna have to call them to see how they plan on doing it, I don't want to wait for hours only to get shafted. Sticking close to wally world, what about Sams club? I was thinking of them too but what about people with business memberships. They normally get in an hour earlier and I'm thinking they'll scoop them all up, I don't know. I really want to stay away from bestbuy, that's probably gonna be really crazy and they'll probably be more pushy on accessories and such.

Sams Club and Costco (and other membership stores of the like) are a good place to go.  Many of the 360 success stories were from these places.  smile.gif  If I didn't have to work that Friday I would probably be there.

Sounds pretty similar to the X360 launch last year at my local walmart. They had set up 19 chairs, each chair representing a console they had to sell. By the time I got there at 8pm, I was #21 in line. The first guy in line had been there since 8am that morning. I went ahead and waited it out, just in case.

Why? There's no reason to give out a raincheck, because they're for normal price.

EB Games called me and said they only had 1 of my 2 PS3s coming Friday.  I feel sorry for the 6 behind me in line not getting any.  They are giving out rain checks for the 2nd shipment.

My local walmart said they don't know when they are setting up chairs, I'm going to go around Noon on the 15th and sit there for 24h+ to get my hands on a few PS3s.

for when the next units come in. raincheck ppl would be next in line. wink.gif

rainchecks here are for only when an item is on sale at a lower-than-normal price.

They pretty much would have to start setting up seats once people state that's why they're waiting. BTW, only expect to snag 1 from your local walmart. (1 PS3 per customer)

15th! That's nuts! You're talking 36 hours of sitting there waiting for the PS3.

For the 360 Launch I drove around the night before looking for a place to wait.  Most of the Best Buys and Target lines seemed way too long and I gave up and went home.  Then I happened to wake up early at 6am and decided to check my nearest Best Buy. I stood in line for 2 hours and still got a premium system.  The dude that was first in line had camped out there the entire day before -and we're talking cold Minnesota weather!

well out of curiousity, and to save myself much frustration tomorrow, I called my local Walmart...which is a 24 hour supercenter and they said they already have more people lined up than they have systems......same goes with another walmart locally, and of course best buy too........I figured I wouldn't get one at launch, but what upsets me the most is that some of the people in these lines are just going to sell the things on ebay...I know that of course what makes capitalism so great is if the market will bear a price then it's fair to sell something at that value...

hopefully people will refuse to pay the extremely high prices for the ps3 on ebay, but then again I guess if I actually had enough money laying around it would be worth it to have one sooner rather than later....actually I'm not sure....

I'm only interested in Resistance at launch and was hoping to pick it up more for blu-ray playback for now...hopefully I can snag one before Christmas, but I doubt it.....I mean, how can these people afford to not work and camp out for 2 days or more?? I guess they'll make more in the transaction though than they make at work so they might as well wait it out.........

good luck to everyone trying to get a system to use for yourself
