While a lot of people take fun in bashing the PS3 I think this site's existence makes a very interesting point.

Europe has always received their consoles late, it's been pretty much a given since consoles have been around.  MS decided to do something different and release their console in Europe at the same time as everywhere else.

This raised the bar for launch expectations across all consoles. Even still being that it was common practice for Europe to have to wait I'm sure most people there would have still been OK receiving PS3s and Wiis later then their release in the US and Japan.

The moment Sony announced that they would match MS's launch (even 1upping them saying that Australia would be covered in November as well) is the moment when simultaneous world wide launch became the standard. If one company does it, it's an exceptional offer; a probably one-time nice gesture that consumers might like to see others do but it's not fully expected, if two or all three companies do it, then it becomes the standard. That one first company is no longer exceptional, they're just doing what the rest of the industry is doing.

Now that Sony has decided not to launch in Europe this year they've placed themselves BELOW the expected standard. It's clearly obvious that people are upset over this, someone went out of their way to dedicate a website (and a whole ton of bandwidth) to expressing their feelings on the matter. They wouldn't have been in such a predicament had they been more reasonable with their original estimates.
