Euro PlayStation 3 Launch Delayed
Posted by XanTium | September 6 11:00 EST

From bbc.co.uk/gamesindustry.biz:
Quote

The launch of Sony's long-awaited PlayStation 3 games console in Europe has been delayed until March 2007.
Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony's global computer entertainment division, said the machine would still be launched in November in the US and in Japan.

Mr Kutaragi blamed the European delay on problems in mass producing elements of the high-definition Blu-ray disc drives in the machines.
Sony said it still aimed to ship six million new PlayStations by March.
But it halved its forecast for the end of 2006, saying just two million units would be shipped worldwide before the end of December.

Xbox UK boss Neil Thompson has told GamesIndustry.biz that Microsoft is not surprised Sony has "backed away" from its commitment to a global launch for PlayStation 3.
"We know how challenging it is to pull off a global launch, so it's not surprising that Sony has backed away from their previously announced launch plan, due to the unproven technology they are trying to pack in to their console," he said.
He concluded, "These factors will help us reach our goal of 10 million consoles sold worldwide by the end of the year."

I am sure it will be delayed in the USA also or it will have a crappy launch. You will be lucky if you get one this xmas. Everything is being blamed on blu ray. Anyone who pays an insane price for this on ebay is simply an idiot

and the fall of the ps3 begins.  I think the main issue with the PS3 is that sony is putting all its eggs in one basket by not only backing blueray but forcing it down the throats of consumers. Sony is the king of failed media formats.  look at the UMD format MiniDisc. The early blueray movies have been less then satisfactory. While i will give credit to PS2 for adopting the DVD format and allowing there to be a low cost player on the market. I believe picking blue ray for a videogame console is a mistake for the following reasons. Higher Cost..Higher Fail Rates(Insert xbox360 joke here)....Higher game prices...

By delaying this launch i think alot of the european sony consumers may switch to WII or 360.

I will be waiting in line at the bestbuy in boston hoping to snag one of these and resell it on ebay for 2000$+

Oh my, why would anyone want to buy PS3 to play in PAL format?? It makes no sense at all!! Why bother buying a HD gaming console if your not going to use HD?

Ain't nothing going to stop the PS3 from being a huge success.

The problems with blue ray will make it stall from the gate, but it still will win the race.

People want to bitch about how expensive it is, but compared to the other offerings and what you're getting for your money, it's a bargain.

An Xbox 360/hard drive can be upgraded with a HD drive but that brings the price up to $600. With that same cash, you can purchase a PS3 and get not just Hi-Def video but also with HDMI, additional 40 gigs of storage and near 100% compatibiltiy with PS2 and PS1 games which most people still have a nice collection of.

Microsoft is the biggest pirate with the most expensive 'complete' system.

Choices are;
1.If you're a cheap SOB who likes cutting edge gaming experiences, buy a WII
2 If you want the overall best multimedia experience, save and wait, then get a PS3
3 If you want to game now in mid range PC def graphics without buying a more expensive capable PC, and don't mind getting ram rodded by Microsoft for accesories, then get a 360

posted this in the other thread but since this may become the "official" thread on the subject....

who really found this surprising? microsoft themselves have said that there are few companies who can do what they did and this proves it. they also admitted that if they knew what they were getting into they would not have done it, which only further proves how hard it is to do a worldwide launch. however still why screw over europe so many times?

also has anyone seen this?.....

In the U.S., about 400,000 PlayStation 3 machines will be available when they go on sale Nov. 17. About 100,000 will be available on the Nov. 11 Japan launch date.

i knew that the shipment numbers would be cut (just like the playstation 2 shipment was halved) but this is really really sick for a "worldwide launch".

but GO SONY! you need all the damn help you can get and with the help of zombies like Kira on your team you still have a chance!!

this whole system and launch has been nothing but a joke from the start IMHO.

Everyone points towards the PS2's huge success and market dominance the fact that it played DVD's.

Well the fact is, DVD's had already established themselves as a consumer success. A *HUGE* success at that.

The Blu-Ray doesn't have 1 1,000th the consumer demand in the market that DVD's had when the PS2 launched.

ROFL

The 360's graphics are currently on par or better than extremely high-end PC's.

CoD2 playing on a 360 and a PC side-by-side with the highest settings on both showed the 360 to be better.

F.E.A.R. developers are admitting that on the Xbox 360 (probably PS3, too) that it will look a lot better on the 360 than it did on the PC.

**** The CoD2 comparison was made by IGN.
**** The F.E.A.R. comparison is from the F.E.A.R. developers

he's obviously a scorned fanboy upset about the news and instead of living in reality (like very few zombies do) he much rather outlash his anger on a company that has proven themselves.

so take it easy on the sensitive one, the zombies have been going through some tough times the last few months  laugh.gif

yet another display of sony's disrespect towards europeans.
like how long did we have to wait for the PSP to launch? like 6 months longer?
seriously sony, if you wanna lose costumers, keep up the "good" work.

sony pulls europeans this sh*t like every fricking time they release something, do they really think they can keep on insulting the consumers?

That's interesting seeing that there is no such thing as PAL when it comes to Blu-Ray HD. HD is 1080/60 or 1080/24.

Freaking liars.

This is for them:
