"ps3 And Xbox 360 Too Weak"

QUOTE
Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don't offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, the developer claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that "next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power" to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

I personally think this is bullshit, since both consoles are more powerful than most high end PCs. And that Crytek just doesn't want to do the extra work involved in getting this game on a console.

any other opinions?

The 360 and ps3 CPU cannot keep up with duel core P4 and AMD.

And while the 360 has some chance with DX10, the ps3 is dead in the water.

you have to read between the lines with this news.

in an interview with gametrailers.com, they stated that the consoles would not be able to handle a direct port but then he went on to say that they will license the engine for use on the next gen consoles.

i believe it just means that a straight port is not possible which has nothing to do with the lack of power but the lack of their willingness to optimize for the consoles.  i believe the biggest factor would be the RAM in the consoles being less then in most computers, even though they dont need as much as 512 for a system is A LOT.

foe hammer, even though on paper i believe that intel and amd dual cores beat out the 360 and ps3 CPUs, i believe in real world environments it would prove to be the opposite.

i don't remember if they said that about doom3, but i remember hearing it about halflife 2, i'm sure this game will find its way to consoles in 1 form or another as kage said.

This points out very nicely why the lack of DX10 compatibility is not related to Crysis not being ported. What he is saying is bullshit

enjoy

very good find, i think i saw it before but i just ignored it.

So DX is a software development program PCs and it makes no difference for consoles

I wonder when Crytek will change their mind and make a port. It no longer matters to me because i just saw a whole bunch of crackdown trailers and im pumped for it

Yea when doom 3 was first anounced they said it wasn't possible on the consoles because of the lack of ram. The xbox need atleast 256 of ram before they can even think of porting it. That was until a dev company (forgot the name) said we can do it! The rest is history...

Listen, I DIRECT may not be possible but the game is quite possible on BOTH systems. Don't let this mumbo jumbo get you down.
