That's correct the ICT is mandated by the MPAA (motion picture artists association) They have ZERO say in what effects video games. the ICT is NOT a content lock but a very specific tool to arbitrarily limit play back of MPAA created movies.

Movie companies do not own the HD-DVD format or Blu-Ray or DVD, they're simply mediums for delivering their data (like paper or clay tablets) and the ICT is part of their data... It's the same reason regular DVDs can store game data that produces a Hi-Def image on The Xbox 360, and Xbox 1, etc. and the fact that you can use CDs to produce Hi-Def images in PC games... They're nothing more then pieces of paper (figuratively speaking) Blu-Ray is just a bigger piece of paper, it doesn't effect how beautiful the drawing is, or how detailed the information... just how much you can fit on it.

As for 1080p on the $500 model... I doubt it... IIRC component video connections don't offer enough bandwidth to produce a 1080p signal. Hence why HDMI is REQUIRED for such a thing... this would be a technological limitation as opposed to a political one like the ICT.

So if ICT is out of the question, then why is there so much news about the PS3 not being able to have high definition visuals without HDMI? Very misleading

That question makes no sense! blink.gif

All The PS3 can barely do true 1080p in gaming. Its possible in movies because one of the models has HDMI, its the lesser model is in question.

Now twisted, im not the most knowledgable on this but from what I hear 1080p signals is possible through component. ICT was the only thing that was stoping Blu Ray/ HD DVD from outputing 1080p signals through component. Simply because it cripples the resolution if it doesnt detect HDMI.

Im more than likely wrong on this but can u enlighten me?

because the ICT is part of the movies, its not "out of the question" as you put it, it just won't be a part of the games. its something thats actually on the movie discs. either way, you'll probably be on ps4/xbox3 by the time it matters as i don't think the ICT will be put on any movies any time soon. it would alienate early adopters of HDTV, and thats not something the movie industry wants to do.
