A Few Questions About The Playstation 3
« on: August 27, 2006, 09:52:00 AM »

Hey biggrin.gif

I have a few questions about the PS3, and I hoped you could answer them  smile.gif

1. Is the new controller wireless? And does it have the vibration function?

2. Is it for sure that the online gaming part on the PS3 will be free?

3. Can I play all of the the old Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 games on the new PS3?

Thanks in advance!

its unclear what that means though. from what i recall, when they said ps3 online was going to be free and they where saying what it could do, online gaming wasn't written on their slide at all. this could be sony's version of xbox live silver.

well, i have heard the chipset limits the core version to 1080i (although there are worse things since very few games, if any, will be able to take advantage of 1080p) there was a list of differance that was pretty long, but i can't find the link right now. if i come across it i'll make a reply with it.

the $500 PS3 will be able to support 1080p. That is, until Blu ray starts integrating HDCP/AACS into their games and movies. Then movies and games on the PS3 without the HDMI will go down to a resolution of 540p.

its an on/off switch when they are producing the disc, ultimately it will be up to the devs i would imagine, but it would be idiotic to use the ICT in a game. i guarentee that games will not have an ICT.

ICT was created by MOVIE companies...Nobody evr said games will be affected. Also ICT will not be put in effect until about 5 years from now. When the systems are dying.

That's correct the ICT is mandated by the MPAA (motion picture artists association) They have ZERO say in what effects video games. the ICT is NOT a content lock but a very specific tool to arbitrarily limit play back of MPAA created movies.

Movie companies do not own the HD-DVD format or Blu-Ray or DVD, they're simply mediums for delivering their data (like paper or clay tablets) and the ICT is part of their data... It's the same reason regular DVDs can store game data that produces a Hi-Def image on The Xbox 360, and Xbox 1, etc. and the fact that you can use CDs to produce Hi-Def images in PC games... They're nothing more then pieces of paper (figuratively speaking) Blu-Ray is just a bigger piece of paper, it doesn't effect how beautiful the drawing is, or how detailed the information... just how much you can fit on it.

As for 1080p on the $500 model... I doubt it... IIRC component video connections don't offer enough bandwidth to produce a 1080p signal. Hence why HDMI is REQUIRED for such a thing... this would be a technological limitation as opposed to a political one like the ICT.
