What frustrates me the most is that people will buy the PS3 without knowing anything about it.
They don't know the reasons why they shouldn't buy it or why they should buy it, all they know is that its a PS3 (which pisses me off) They don't know enough to know that they don't know.
I think that you're not giving the average consumer enough credit here. Usually average consumers that make big purchases make purchases intelligently as possible. Case in point? HDTV's. Putting down so much cash for 1 thing, this makes sense. What you are missing though, is that they don't just point to the PS3, and say, thats a PS3 I'm buying it, but behind all of that, they know the Playstation brand and know that when they invest in it, future prospects are going to fulfill their expectations. Thats why it's an investment. That's how these products work. Look at Nintendo DS. Sure the initial launch, and the 1st year it operated was CRAP, and utter GARBAGE, but nevertheless, Nintendo "Zombies" had faith in the product and it finally delivered. Now it's the hottest thing since sliced bread in Japan. It's all about consumer faith man. That's what delivers the games. That's what makes an installed base to deliver the games to.
Not only does the brand entice gamers to buy the system, but its the games too. If someone sees a game they want to play, and they'll go as far as to buy a system for it (like I did for FF3 for DS, RE4 for GC) then thats what they'll damn well do. You can get frustrated and call people names as much as you want but that won't change what someone will do, or like to do. It shouldn't piss you off, it's their money. If you wasted your money, then I can see thats understandable that you felt that way.
