Tsop And Lcd Mod?
« on: January 08, 2008, 10:39:00 AM »

Some questions for someone knowledgable:

1. I have a version 1.4 xbox with the TSOP flashed with x2 4981.06 bios and a x-addons LCD MOD. Can i use the lcd mod soldered to the lpc port and use a lcd display or have i got to use a modchip (lpc>lcdmod>modchip>lcd)?

2. I have the data sheet for the LCD i wish to use and i just want to check that i do not need data connections D0,D1,D2,D3 and i only need D4,D5,D6,D7. The LCD is a Samsung VFD 16T202DA1E 2x14 char display which says is 4 bit OR 8bit so i'm not sure.

3. Also I have an Aladdin XT (4032 not 4064 unfortunately) which i could use but would need to unsolder from another motherboard, would the lcd mod work ok with this?

All help very much appreciated.

Hi,

you do need the modchip to connect the LCD. You don't have 4 data lines on the LPC bus. It is a serial bus.

You should check the datasheets of your LCD. They will tell you if the display can be used in 4 bit mode, and which lines that are used for that mode.

Most displays also need a contrast voltage that is temperature dependant. Maybe the modchip is taking care of that. If your modchip wasn't initially designed to drive a lcd, I don't think a contrast adjustment circuit will be present. Sometimes, it is simply a small trimming potentiometer between the 5V and GND.

regards.
