Yes, motion-sensing controllers are as old (or older than) Atari. But they've also always sucked and been too gimmicky for wide acceptance. Some people never learn. Like Nintendo, who I think you'll find released a few motion-sensing devices back in the days of the NES/Famicom. Like, oh I dunno... THE NINTENDO POWERGLOVE!?!?!?!?!?
Yeesh. Anyway, it's still obvious that Sony only in-cluded the motion-sensing BECAUSE of Nintendo, and due in part to not being able to in-clude rumble since their lost their lawsuit. This rubbish about "rumble interferred with motion" is just covering up the loss. Remember- the Boomerang was a normal controller. Sony only incldued motion-sensing LONG AFTER Nintendo announced the wand.
And if you don't believe that, then why does the PS3 controller have a Guide button like the 360 controller? I smell a ripoff! You can say it was coincidence if you ONLY look at motion-sensing, but the Guide button does in that theory handily. Not to mention the PS3 controller's 4 LED lights to show you which port you're connected to look almost exactly like Nintendo's version on the Wiimote.
And yes, the PS3 is less expensive than the (crappy)BluRay players that will hit the market. But you forget that Full HD-DVD players will be released at a third of that cost- BluRay's going to have a hard time toppling that kind of $$$ gap.
And I don't think it's going to be THAT much of a surprise when MS lowers the price of the 360 by $100 in time for Sony's launch, and then they'll probably also release an Xbox 360 Premium + HD-DVD combo pack that retails for the same price as the cheaper (and nuked) PS3 when the HD drive comes out.
But who cares? All of the next-gen DVD formats cost too much, and only matter if you have a high-end HDTV. I'm a poor college student, dangit, and I can't afford that stuff! I just want my regular DVDs on a regular type (~480p-720p) television. And when that's all you care about, the Premium 360 looks like a friggen' steal!
