All I see is a bigass price tag. i kinda doubt that Ms or sony's gonna come out ontop. If you look int the past. This stuff has happened before and failed. Ms can't get anything straightened out with the 360 and sony's will have a bigass pricetag and might be ahead of it's time. They keep on going faster in the console race, they'll end up crashing and burning.

Just one thing on the 60gig HDD. Every other website is reporting that SONY never said it would come out of the box, raising the possibility that you would have to buy it seperately.

"However, Kutaragi revealed that Sony had not decided whether or not the PlayStation 3 would come with the hard-drive pre-installed. "We might end up installing it in all PS3s, though that depends on the market," he said. This raises the possibility that the PS3 could be sold without a piece of hardware needed to play PS3 games--in effect forcing consumers to buy a peripheral for basic functionality" -Gamespot- http://www.gamespot....ws/6145972.html

"Earlier, we mistakenly reported that Sony would including the hard disk with the PS3 right out of the box. Kutaragi actually stopped short of confirming this, leaving it as an area of speculation for now. He did state that Sony hopes to avoid a situation where some systems have the drive and others don't (Kutaragi didn't mention Xbox 360, but he was probably thinking it)." -IGN- http://ps3.ign.com/a...6/696056p1.html

Actually, the Blu-Ray thing being a diversion is not true.

The copy protection conflict came to an agreement last month, which is why Kutaragi is talking now. The drive was basically "feature complete" back in December, but they couldn't finish until a couple months of arguing with movie execs over the problems they had with the copy protection methods.

The 60GB HDD is a shocker though. I didn't see that one coming. That's my problem with Sony: I take their word now that it's basically the final stage, but the last year has been a buttload of misinformation. Phil Harrison saying they're using the same PS2 online method one day, then the next day they've got a full XBL clone. Saying the hard drive would be an aftermarket product, now it's bundled. Now all that remains is the price.

MS has the money to wage a private war :! its like the MS only joined the console market because sony did something to MS they shouldn't have done. The reason i say because they are making profit and its all looses. they only company that makes money is Nintendo.

QUOTE
He confirmed that the PlayStation3 is delayed because the copy protection isn't ready with Blu-ray, but we'll get a worldwide launch in North America, Asia and Europe early (within first 10 days of) November 2006.

-BS, as stated before

QUOTE
They will produce the PS3 at a rate of 1 million units per month and should have 6 million units released by march 2007.

-Probably True

QUOTE
The final PS3 development kits will be shipping to developers in June 2006.

-Probably True

QUOTE
To prevent piracy all PS3 games will come out on Blu-Ray discs only, not on CD/DVD. The console will of course be able to read PS1 CDs, PS2 DVDs and DVD movies.

-Probably True so they can charge more the games because of the "extra" cost of the discs

QUOTE
Sony also announced that the PlayStation 3 will be 100% backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games, and all titles played on the system will be displayed at high-definition resolutions.

- True but will the games be in HD resolutions or just scaled (ps3, as ps2 and ps1 were just SD, I think)? most ps3 will aleast be 720p I assume

QUOTE
The PS3 will ship with a, completely upgradeable, 60GB hard drive right out of the box. Publishers have been told to develop titles with the assumption that the console will have a HD.

- I call huge BS on this one, why would sony put an HD in let alone a 60gb, they will probably put memory card slots in so you have to buy their memory sticks so they get more money, 60gb HD will be an accesory the ships to the store where you can buy it with your ps3 for added cost is what he probably means.

QUOTE
Kutaragi also said the HD will support Linux OS and will act as a home server where users can store their media on.

- BS MAJOR hear, sony is a protection zealot this would allow for even the smallest of piracy, not going to happen, root kit anyone? sony wont comprimise its system for this.

QUOTE
The PS3 will include a built-in Wi-Fi connection that can serve as a wireless access point for the PSP.
Sony also unveiled some details of their online plans ('PlayStation Network Platform').

- Probabally true, you get fabulous Wi-Fi at the expense of your wallet

QUOTE
At launch the console will get community tools (lobby matching and voice chat) and commerce features (like in-game shopping and game downloads to the hard drive). The "basic" service will be free of charge.

- Probably True

holy expensive!!!  lets not forget that anyone that buys one will also have to buy a new hdtv that supports DVI or HDMI hookups, since due to the blue-ray copy protection, only tvs with those connections will work.  sony must think all its fans are 6+ figure earners.

concerning the 60GB HD, couldnt M_hael confirm whether or not developers were told to develop for the ps3 with the HD being standard in mind?  i understand that he is under NDA about a lot of info, but isnt NDA lifted once info becomes public?  since this was told to the public, cant any developer confirm or deny if they have been told to develop with the assumption of an included HD?

It's still underarchieving. Many freeware emulators get an update in every two weeks. MS has a team working on this, how is it possible that they can't produce an update in four months?

I think that x360's BC support was all about getting the notion of being backwards compatible. They have no urge or no plans to support it further, because they want people to buy the new, more expensive games. They've done the bare minimum and left it as such.

I'll be tipping off my hat if PS3 keeps its promise of full BC. Many current PS2 games will have a high replay value on HDMI. Who knows, maybe PS3 will have the muscle to upgrade them all the way to 1080p.

BC on the 360 and BC on the PS2/PS3 are two completely different things. Drastically changing computer architecture makes things extremely hard.  MS's change in companies created so many difficulties for that concept...you have no idea what you are talking about other than being a fanboy wanting to play old games...

Please find me a "freeware emulator" that emulates xbox games there champ...emulating nintendo 1 games is SLIGHTLY different...

I think Sony just nailed the coffin on the 360... They seem to be promoting everything that the 360 doesn't have - divx/xvid playback (through linux presumably), larger HDD, digital output (HDMI), blueray.

It doesn't matter about the price, it will sell.

Now the only main concern for me is the graphics capability of the machine, will it be more powerful than the 360 or will it even out (notice the lack of more cpu/gpu details).

I will always stick with my 360 however, as it has the type of games that I love, xbox live and a very nice controller (not like the awful boomerang) biggrin.gif

Rofl, the cost isn't going to matter. We all know what happened with the last two consoles. It is about the name, the developers with that specific company, and a loyal fanbase (Asia).

I can see the Xbox 360 maybe dominating for some time in North America, but for sheer numbers sold, the winner has already been decided and the console isn't even out.
