Xbox Harddrives To Purchase
« on: January 06, 2008, 12:44:00 AM »

Hey everyone I'm new so bear wit me... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Ok I have modded my Xbox many years ago its v1.0 with an 80GB Hard Drive and a Smart XX chip with a light mod in the middle.

Recently i order a clear red Xbox case and another light set but this one you can bend and twist it in any shape or form. Ok i installed the case all fine and dandy and i installed the lights, turned it on it came on for about a minute with all lights up and looking great then i heard a "POW" sound and then the Xbox shutdown. I reopened my Xbox a searched for the source of the malfunction and it was the new lights i installed i did it the wrong way i make a huge mistake my putting the little box thingy that came with the lights inside my Xbox when it should have been outside for air flow, so i tried it without any lights it came on and then turned off this went on for three tries and then my Hard Drive started to smoke so i know that my Hard Drive is f***ed up and I'm screwed. So i came to the conclusion that maybe it was too much for the Hard Drive to handle and it went on the fritz, so saying that i lost all of my Games, Trainers, Emulators, Applications etc. I began my search for a new Hard Drive its a no go all the sites i went too were all of "out of stock"  so anyone can give me a link a good site that sells Hard Drives that would be great and i would appreciate it.

P.S My Xbox is looking sexy for no reason...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

With a mod chip installed you don't need to lock the drive. You can't play on Live.

Well i do have a mod chip installed the Smart XX chip, so all i got to do is just install the Hard Drive and use my Auto Installer and install the Microsoft dashboard and a custom one...right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

yes. you don't need to lock it, unless you are going to use your retail bios for something (live, etc.)

90$ is kinda expensive for that 250GB drive.

try 3btech or unity electronics for better prices.

any IDE (ATA not SATA) HD should work.

not all are lockable, but you shouldn't need to lock it anyway.

OK guys i got my hard drive yesterday from the site in the second post and i'm very excited...i didn't install it yet because i know that it does not have the MS dashboard so i was wondering how would i go about setting my hard drive up. My Xbox was modded before so i already have my chip installed its a Smart XX.

Slayer's Autoinstaller Deluxe. Download it, burn it, and then use it in tandem with THIS tutorial. Should be easy enough.
