EA Explains Medal of Honor Airborne PS3 Delay

From next-gen.biz:
Quote

Earlier this week, EA confirmed that Medal of Honor Airborne for PS3 would be arriving in November this year, as opposed to the August 28 release date for the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

Executive producer Patrick Gilmore said that the PS3 version is "looking good," but added, "We want to release on PS3 when we can deliver a much more polished and complete experience." Gilmore wants to make sure that Sixaxis functionality with the PS3 version is up to par, and said he doesn't want to "shortchange" PS3 owners.
"I think it's a great machine. We haven't had as long [on the PS3], but the Cell processor is very, very powerful, and the challenge for any developer is figuring out how to leverage all that extra power... We're a platform-agnostic company, so the challenge for Medal of Honor Airborne is always fully leveraging the platform, and not doing what some of our competitors do, which is cater to the lowest common denominator."

They never said they was going to make the ps3 version better then the others
They say they want to polish the ps3 version rather then just do the port and leave it
So it should be as good or better we will have to wait and see on that one...

Hopefully they will be open up the power on ps3 so we can see what it can really do or is the cell all hype
Or is the rest of the system a bottle neck for the cell ?

All questions we have yet to be answered with working proof..

I dont have a ps3 yet it will take a price drop or a few killer exclusivis to make me buy one at this moment in time...

Allthough i do hope to be a ps3 owner at some point (so the programmers better hurry up and unleash the beast they call the cell)

This game works on Unreal Engine 3.

Which suxx on PS3.

To date only ONE game with this engine WORKS on PS3.
And it taken ONLY 7 months of porting.

R6:Vegas.

If game with less effects, slightly worse framerate  and 1080i scaling problem is example of how UE3 works on PS3....

Eurogamer has nice comparations

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78963

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Sonic the Hedgehog
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Tony Hawk Project 8

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75856
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Call of Duty 3, F.E.A.R., World Snooker Championship 2007, Enchanted Arms, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007, and both NBA and NHL 2K7.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74502
Ridge Racer 6/7, Def Jam: Icon, Fight Night Round 3, Virtua Tennis 3, NBA Homecourt and Need for Speed Carbon)

All games except Oblivion are worse - with cut out effects / framerate problems.
Everybody already knows that GPU in PS3 is only slightly upgraded midrange GF7600GT taken from PC at the last moment when it came to light that projected 2xCell PS3 with no GPU would mighty su*** compared to X360.
128bit 8ROP 500Mhz 256MB DDR3.
Only pixel shaders were doubled from 12 to 24.

Thats why custom built GPU in X360 being newer technology (nearly DX10 card) beats it in most cases.

i wonder if they just cant get the six-axis control system down pat?? i mean really 3 months extra to "leverage" the cell's power, that doesnt sound likely to me but im no programmer

ps3 should deff win with all the flight sim games though with the six-axis alone who cares about gfx its the gameplay

Finally they are going to use more of the ps3 Power(cell). I cant wait to see the games better the X360.

Unfortunately they are probably using this time to make the game look as close as possible to the x360 version, it probably is noticeably inferior at this point.

There isn't much incentive for a cross platform developer at this point to make a better quality PS3 port because of the installed base of the console is very low. The main incentive for the extra development time is probably due to the embarrassment factor the developer would face about the poor quality of the port if the released early.

Since the PS3 is harder to develop for it makes sense that more time is required to make an equivalent quality product when compared to the x360. I would agree that if lots of extra time is devoted to the development on the PS3 you could get a better product as compared to what could be done in much less time on the x360.
