720p @ 30fps?  I didn't even know that was possible.  I thought 720p was always 60fps...oh well.

Def. a disappointment.

I'm guessing that the ps3 is only capable of "trueHD" on selected titles, meaning mostly fighters.

I wonder if we will see as many/few ps3 1080p titles (PSN games doesn't count) as we saw 720p/1080i titles on the xbox1

There is a real dilemma looming here.
The XBox was capable of HD, and not many games were rendered as such.  Now the 360 requires HD of at least 720p.

The PS3, AFAIK, does not require game devs to make their games HD.

What will happen?  360 games are guaranteed to be HD.  PS3 games aren't required to be, but a non-hd game may not be seen as competitive or desirable with this generation of console.

I doubt it (the xbox had alot more 720p titles than ppl think) cause of the ps3 scaling problems devs might wanna leave 1080p for awhile. Also because of cross platform games being more prevalent in this generation. 1080p probably wont as much. Time will tell

This is no surprise to me since I am getting very used to my PS3 letting me down/overhyping underdelivering. mad.gif

I still keep my fingers crossed for the future.

Also 1080p can't go above 30 fps on every HDTV on the market right now making 720p the only HDTV resolution capable of going up to 60fps. At least they aren't saying all there games are going to be at 1080p at 120fps anymore.

If they just put a fucking scaler in the ps3 they wouldn't have any of these problems, and since they made no promises about resolution standards they could have had the scaler scale up 480p and i bet very few people would have noticed.

I'm rambling i'll stop now, few to many beers. tongue.gif

actually its the other way around.  The 360's scaler allows devs to make games at lower than HD resolutions(PGR3) and have them scaled up.   The lack of scaler in the PS3 means the game has to be 720p

True, and those games (CoD3, TH:P8) show it with with framerate issues compared to their 360 counterpart.

^^^^ thats verys subjective^^^^

if the had a smooth frame rate on the 360, its still likely to have frame rate issues on the ps3 because of the resolution.

i would not expect that to be the norm.  unfortunately there are exceptions to every rule, while 99% of the 360 games will be HD, i suspect that there may be situations where trade offs must be made.  Sony with the PS3, on the other hand, does not require or push for any standard.
