apparently, yes.

i for one did not buy a gamecube (i will eventually for zelda  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) so to be honest i probably won't purchase a wii unless i get fat and need a bit of exercise............. j/k

id buy one for zelda and monkey ball, but not @ 200 quid (is that the uk price?) - ill buy one for a ton tho, maybe 150. might import one..............

yea I dunno, most times I feel that controller is just a crutch . I mean without it can the system hold itself together? I mean if the ps3 (which is not exactly spectacular in itself) lineup is outshining it then should I even consider it?

Sure the controller thing is cool but is that all to the system? I mean is it just a gamecube with a fancy controller? Should I save that money for a ps3 one day? Or just get some of the great 360 games coming up with the money.

Nothing excites me too much on the PS3 lineup, Lair is the main title I'm looking forward too next year. Most titles will be, or already are on the 360 (I have a few of them). Which titles would you by incognegro?

The Wii has more exclusive & unique titles, but a lot of them are kids games.

I not too sure about the Wii myself, need to try it out and get a feel of it. But it's definitely going to generate more hype then the PS3 this holiday season.

I read a very insightful article about the use of the wiimote. That most of the ported (or exclusively made for) games for the wii acctually were worse to play with the wiimote then they would be with a controller. But the good games that makes use of the controller to its full extent,(red steel) will be a whole new gameplay experience. But as of now I'm more disappointed towards the very lacking virtual console turnout (Japanese people  can be a little more content).

this wii list seems to have some more games then the ign article states..

Well on the wii, I was really looking forward to mario galaxy and wario ware.....and anymore mario kart that will be available but none of that will be available in the launch window. Excite truck is not real that interesting to me, Never was a zelda fan (yes I know, blasphemous), red steel is overrated as far as im concerned. I just want real, deep, Multiplayer type games. As far as the ps3, resistance is defly my type of game but there isn't much to talk about after that. Im not interested in multiplatform games cause I probably will have the 360 version first (I review games for my local newspaper, so i get my hands on alot of free 360 games).

Whilst i fully agree games that do not take advantage of the controller may be worse to play.

But cant you use the gamecube or the wii's classic controller for it? Either way i think most people with a wii wll have either a ps3 or a 360 also, meanng any games that don't take advantage of the remote they will just buy it for their other console.

Conclusion
Don't get me wrong, this preview wasn't intended to slate the Wii and everything it stands for. The Wii is fun to play and has some interesting titles lined up for release. What I do want to do is provide a little realism. Too many journalists are giving out the impression that the Wii will provide an unbelievable, unique experience unlike anything you will have ever played before. That the Wii remote allows for completely dynamic gameplay that will revolutionise the gaming world. These facts are half-truths, based most probably on people spending a small amount of time with the console at a booth at one of the big conventions. When you get down to the nitty gritty of the Wii you find something a bit different from the 360 and PS3, but not drastically as you may have thought/hoped.

We will soon see whether my rather less positive preview of the Nintendo Wii is correct. The console is due for release on November 19th in the US and will land in Europe on December 8th. Currently the Wii is priced at £179.99, coming with a nunchuck, Wii Sports and the Wii remote. If, however, you're looking forward to playing some multiplayer Wii Sports then get ready to shell out around £210, as you'll need to buy an extra remote which will cost you £30.

The fact that this second remote is essential for the Wii experience raises an interesting question. Peter Moore claimed, not so many months ago, that the consumer would be able to buy the Wii and 360 for less money than a Playstation 3 – spawning the name 'Wii60'. In actuality the PS3 will cost around £430 but the combination of a 360 premium and a Wii with two remotes will actually be close to the £530 mark. Remember, that's without a HD DVD drive and with only a 20GB hard drive instead of the 60 GB one found in the PS3. It leads us to one final question (and our only 'wii' gag – aren't we mature?) about Nintendo's upcoming gaming console: Are Nintendo and Microsoft wiieally going to Wii all over Sony? The answer, surprisingly, is maybe not.

thanx but I was hoping for the whole article.

I was never impressed by the controller, its just another nintendo gimmick. Its all about the games thats why im reconsidering, the wii launch lineup is boring really. That controller is not gonna make me like a crappy game, a game like that is crap no matter how much icing you put on it.

I credit Nintendo for thinking out of the box, though.

Can't find it right now digg is acting up I did find another article that debunks some of what he said about ported non wii games.

Wiimote a hit on cod 3
http://www.computera...e.php?id=148454

I also read another about the sam fisher game that said the control was "awful", making the game very very hard.

I'll see if I can lcate it later.

well, the ps3 launch list then you pasted, every one of the 3rd party games is either already released on the 360, or will be coming to the 360 in the very near future with the exception of untold legends and gundam (which may or may not be 360 bound, i just don't know one way or the other). i mention this because since your on x-s, i assume you have some interest in the 360 as well.

their exclusive titles don't have anything that impressive either that even comes close to being as interesting as zelda or wii sports. i think the wii launch line up looks much more impressive.

There is I thing I know for certain, the Wii games will get heaps better. I would love to be a game developer for the Wii. I just hope it can deliver on the imagination of developers. It kinda looks to good to be true. The gamer needs to feel in control of the game, not in control of the Wiimote.

Well, since we're on the topic of motion control, I stumbled across a little article on joystiq saying how Wii sports (maybe more titles than this) have control issues with the Wii.

http://www.joystiq.c...control-issues/

QUOTE
After spending "several hours" with Wii Sports, IGN's Nintendo editor Matt Casamassina doesn't like the game due to flawed controls with the exception of Wii Bowling which he calls "totally rocking." Regarding Tennis, he had this to say: "You don't control anything except the swing of your player's racket. The movement of these Mii-alike athletes is all done automatically by the game. You simply swing the Wii remote back and forth to make your on-screen character do the same thing."

True dat. Though we enjoyed the game at E3, it's unproven how long the fun lasts with tennis (from our limited play test). Regarding Baseball, Casamassina contends: "When you want to throw a curve ball, you don't actually motion it, as you might suspect. No, why would you want to use a gesture for a console whose primary purpose is to promote unique and innovative ways to play? To throw a curve ball, you first select it on the D-Pad and then make a standard throwing motion."

Though no one should be expecting deep gameplay from the pack-in, a flick of the wrist puts spin on a moving bowling ball but not a breaking curve? Bush league.

I've read in EGM an article that discussed the Wii and PS3 motion on some games. Most of the games were just too simple and not innovative enough for what could have been done. Pitty really.
