Ps3 Can't Play Its Killer App?
« on: October 19, 2006, 01:41:00 PM »

So I got to thinking, at least this thing is backwards compatible so people can lean on the ps2 library to get them through bad launch titles and perhaps throughout the year.  Now let me ask you what was one of the biggest hits last year that is being followed by a part two.  Guitar Hero.

Ok now I decided to start looking harder at photos of PS3's.  As far as I can tell no ps2 controller ports are on the machine.  The controllers are either wireless or USB.  Has anything been announced in the way of an adaptor for ps2 to usb cables officially?  I know you can buy them from unofficial sources for use with computers but Id be willing to bet it wont work perfectly with the GH controller.

Dont go trading in that ps2 yet guys.

Ok I did.  I have yet to find anything where Sony announces ps2 controller support on ps3.  Mind showing me your source of information?  Lots of people are assuming/asking for a way to do it but so far I dont see one.

A 3rd party cable is the only answer so far?!?!?!  Oh Im sure that will work perfectly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Incognegro I think you are the one that needs to do more research.  That is not an answer its a guess.  Gamestop lists a cable for preorder but didnt they also have a sku for a 360 HDMI cable?

Not very often a killer app game is released 6 years into a console. And I'm sure Sony will make new Guitar hero guitars for you, for say 200$  jester.gif

if sony isn't going to make any games for the ps2 that they make for the ps3, then surely the ps2 will die even faster than the xbox 1.

Or people will ignore the PS3 and go buy a ps2 instead, which will make the ps2 outsell the ps3 this holiday season.

Its a lose-lose for sony in one way or another

Still more questions.

If this is correct,

"1. How?

PS3 controller is completely wireless; even when you hook it up to the PS3, there is no communications going on along the wire, you are just providing power to the controller (which communicated via BT)."

I don't see how its possible to connect a ps2 controller, without sony writing drivers and someone providing a cable.
