Sony's Hot Launch List!

Im not disputing the fact that Nintendo can produce 10 mil by years end, but selling 5 mil by years is another thing. Your naive if u think thats gonna happen.

Sony on the other hand already have production issues, and I agree they will sell as much as they produce. The question is, can sony even produce 2.5 mill by years end. Time will tell but I wouldn't bet on it.

Lets take a look at the first two months of sales for the Gamecube when it launched:

US: 2.7million
Japan: 1.57million
UK 1 million

Total: 5.27 Million

Of course it wasn't a simultaneous launch, and those sales numbers were limited by the quantities they were able to ship... That's not including regions like the rest of Europe, Australia, and the Asian pacific.

Couple that with the fact that the Wii is speculated to sell much better then then Gamecube did, I don't think they'll have any problems shipping 5 million world wide.

It will be an unfair comparison, none the less.  But i'm sure it will be a bragging point for the uneducated sony lovers.  Bethesda have had almost another year to polish the game, and add better texture resolution in the distance, that of which was done by a user mod for the pc that requires little to no drop in frame-rate.  I just wish Bethesda would provide the mod over xbl for the 360.  And if they will not do it i can only hope the 360 will get modded asap, so i can do it myself.

im happy you commented on that quote before i did.  however are you saying that they added improved textures to the ps3 version?? has this been confirmed?  i thought the only addition was the added quest, something i would suspect be released for the PC/360 after a time period.

i saw screens of the ps3 version and it looked the same to me, although i would expect them to improve the performance  over all that extra time.

I would guess that the mod in question requires more resources than the 360 and thus its not been implemented for 360.

.............

pc's have more memory, Oblivion streams, in order to fit those textures in memory something would have to drop out.

so someone doing a "mod" to put them back in on pc and it doesn't make much of a difference doesn't mean it wouldn't simply break the 360 version.

pc performance & size can never be compared to 360 simply due to the massively different architectures.

wouldnt this also apply to the ps3 version as well though?

yes and no... the ps3 version is still in development... so they could easily re-assess the memory budget change a few things and fit it in... this is relatively easy during development.. but fairly difficult once the game has shipped.

it not a bug per se so its very unlikely they do it.

It's not a bug, but it makes a HUGE difference.  And i'm sure Bethesda is aware of the user mod.

I found this info out of the PSM magazine.  They compaired two of the same shots from the ps3 and 360.  The distance land textures were noticably better (higher resolution) in the ps3.

I saw some screenshots of the PS3 version, i didn't think it had that much better graphics than the 360 except for perhaps the higher resolution. But i saw the pics in 720p and i thought they were basically the same. It wasn't like Fight Night Round 3 on PS3 compared to the Xbox 360 version.

I think most people missed my point...
(which required reading between lines, which is a bit unfair, and I feel like taking off on a tangent anyway....)

-When it comes to multiplatform titles, systems that come late get the best deal. The game comes out first on the first system, and can be "ported up" where possible. Older multiplatform titles (Fight Night) see new features on new consoles, for example.
-When it comes to exclusives, these are always based on developer support for a platform.

The Wii clearly has the most exclusives, but that also has to do with the controller. Lots of titles HAVE to be exclusives because they had to be adapted for the console in more ways than graphics. But anyway, the order of number of exclusives coming in around the Wii/PS3 launch comes in the order Wii > 360 (if only due to Live Arcade's support) > PS3.

And that's reflected elsewhere by comparisons of games in development- the 360 and Wii have by far the most titles in development (exclusive or not) in the works. So the gap in releases will continue to widen. Especially in the exclusives department- the one area where people claim the Playstation brand really still holds an advantage.

So for a brand that's traditionally relied on its exclusives, this launch lineup looks worrisome. The biggest example is what looks to be Sony's standout game at launch- Resistance. It'll be instantly countered by m'f'ing Gears of War, Metroid, and Red Steel. Not a happy matchup. Even if Resistance is a truly great title and GoW winds up sucking, lots of players will be caught in the crossfire trying to sort out their impressions of all the titles. Then what's left? Ridge Racer*? Full Auto**? Genji***?

*-Ridge Racer 6 is one of the least popular games available for the Xbox 360. How is RR7 suddenly going to be a smash hit on PS3? Did they magically only suck on the sixth version, and suddenly the seventh will rule? Besides, the big guns are on the horizon. Forza 2, Mario Kart, Project Gotham 4, Gran Turismo 5..... lots of people are going to to be waiting for these big titles, I think.

**-Full Auto on 360 was like Ridge Racer in terms of popularity. Only worse. Or actually, it was outselling RR for a while.... although that's like saying getting punched in the chest beats getting punched in the eye. Full Auto 2 is suddenly going to be a great game on PS3? (not that it was terrible- just a little too shallow)

***-Just have to say some of the great lines: GIANT ENEMY CRAB. MASSIVE DAMAGE. REAL-TIME WEAPON CHANGE.
