It can render it internally at that FPS all it wants but both HDMI and component wont allow that kind of speed on a 1080p signal

the reason being is that 1080p is just faked by garbling a 60FPS 1080i signal to send half of a 1080p signal once per frame... (hence why 1080p is limited to only 30FPS)...

nice try but even the small handful of 1080p capable displays can't accept a 1080p60 signal... not to mention that there isn't even a spec for such a signal..

I can understand trying to 1up your competition but honestly people will respect you more if you speak intelligently instead of running your mouth and promising physical impossibilities. (at least I'd respect them more... I can't speak for others)

It could be possible, but not without some major sacrifice in the graphics department.

EDIT: Just read twisted's post and I did not know 1080P is locked a 30 FPS. Sony is delivering yet another misleading promise to the masses.

Sony just managed to get HDMI 1.3 receivers out the door a few weeks ago, and the brand new bravia LCD's also sport the latest interface I believe (specs don't say the HDMI version).

The only drawback is that the receivers cost a great deal of money, and so do the TV's. I don't know of any other manufacturers that have HDMI 1.3 support yet.

It kind of sucks that 99.99% of people out there with HD equipment don't have the capability to do 1080p60, yet it is really being pushed at a "TRUE HD" feature by Sony.

I have that exact monitor.  I cannot wait for the 1080p dash update so i can use my 360 via vga on the beast.

They stopped making them in 2003, and sold new for $2500.

But you can find them used for around $500, now.

And they can do 1080p at 60 fps, and upwards.

Maybe us non-HDMI-1.3-display owners can just get an HDMI to DVI cable?  Wikipedia says that it's capable of 60hz, and so does my PC smile.gif

I do have an unused DVI port on my display...

QUOTE(who knowa @ sometime before now)

press releases almost always go through some legal scrutiny and so it should be noted that this statement does NOT say that the games were running in true HD (Assumed to be 1080p) @ 60 fps. What it actually says is

1. It was seen running in 1080p
2. It was seen running @ 60fps.

any assumptions based on these statements are in the readers mind BUT it is likely that the assumptions were anticipated by the writer whilst sanitized by the lawyer.

gotta love "politics"

thats genius  laugh.gif - why did kotaku not pick up on that?

Edit: seeing as you have experience with the PS3 would you say that 1080p is possible on any of those games @ even 30fps? Theres just alot of bitching about it, and it would be nice to know an informed opinion on the subject.

he has already answered many times with the answer of no, unless you care to play Tetris HD at 1080p laugh.gif

Liar, Ridge Racer 7, and sega's tennis games have supposedly all been confirmed to be running in 1080p, on the ps3.  So i don't know what to believe.  I guess we will have to wait until the games are actually released.

its not impossible, but it is unlikely that we'll see games utilizing free cameras rendering at 1080p. A game like Resident Evil could manage it, its cameras are somewhat limited and thus the amount rendered can be limited by the designer.

There are other ways to limit what is rendered but I can't go into that as I'm currently involved in designing those systems.

simple answer is ... its not impossible, but don't expect it to become commonplace.
