Sony's vice president of marketing Peter Dille said in a recent interview that his company is aggressively developing its online platform in an effort to better compete with Xbox Live.

"We're attacking online very, very aggressively," Dille told Gamasutra in a post E3 interview. "We offer online for free, and our competition charges people to get online."
Dille also criticized Microsoft for charging gamers for what he called "old content and catalogs from previous generations," whereas he claims his company focuses on making new, original downloadable games not limited by a lack of hard drive referring to the Xbox 360 core system.

Good! Xbox Live is key to the Xbox, its something they should approach aggressively smile.gif

This is also really good news for the Xbox users, because Xbox Live will have to step up soon... But probably not for a while tongue.gif

bring it, and shut the fuck up! They criticize so much yet their service is halfway horrible!
If they had a decent pay service similar to xblive, you all would probably have vf5 online. Companies dont always like the inconvenience of maintaining their own servers, sony.

Exactly what previous generation content is he talking about? Maybe he's saying that the playstation online platform takes its content offline after a few months compared to the 360 which keeps all of its game content online, idk.

They should charge. That is the only thing that Live has that no other serivce has, a high level of integration, and standards for all games. For less than $5 a month, I don't see how anyone can even complain about paying so little for a great expierience that makes it easy and enjoyable to go online and play against people and to get new content. If Sony did charge, their service would most likely be very close to Live. And for all the hype that always surrounds the PS3 through fans and Sony executives, it's ridiculous that they offer anything less than an outstanding online expierience on "the most powerful next gen system."
