Hi all,

I know there are a million posts out there about Christmas Light issue, but none of them are definitive.

Introduction: I am a noob at XBox mods and repairs but I do possess excellent soldering abilities and following directions abilities, good working knowledge of unix and I assemble and repair PCs for a living. I did manage to successfully do a softmod, install XBMC, and upgrade the hard drive on a different xbox, thanks to tuts on here.

Symptom: The Xbox boots for a second, reboots and does this three times, then the red and green lights on the eject button ring keep alternating, with absolutely no display on the TV Screen. This is a virgin stock Xbox 1.4 that has never been modded, soft or hard, never even opened and was working fine until one evening when it started doing this.

Questions: Now reading on various forums I know that this could be caused due to number of reasons like MOBO failure, HDD failure, DVD failure and such. But what I am wondering is, is there a definitive way to find out what exactly is causing the damn thing to do that? Is there a way to single out the problem area? What steps should one follow when attempting to fix this? If all else fails who can repair it? And when is a good time to give up?
