New D2c Modchips!
« on: March 18, 2008, 01:40:00 PM »

Just read this and thought the community may be interested, if they don't already know.

There is a new 9 wire D2C Chip called the Wasabi:

http://www.wasabi.net.cn/product.html

And in responce, Infectus is releasing new firmware for both infectus 2 and argon for 10 wire support. (they call it 9 + 1 clock for some reason).

http://www.infectus....-03-13 08.45.08

the skinny from infectus is that it will be all new points, so you cannot use the new 9+1 wire firmware with the 14+3 wire installs, but support will still be there for both sets of installs if updates are needed in the future.

The main difference is that the modchips will have DVD update support for both wasabi and infectus products.  The infectus 2 and argon chips will need an SPI flash to be soldered on for this support. This is suposed to be an 8 wire add on chip thats going to be really easy to install, and speculation is that new argon and infectus chips will be released that already have this added on.

Personally it doesnt matter to me because I already have my 14+3 infectus 2  smile.gif

The Infectus and Argon chips need the extra clock wire as they don't have built in clock like the Wasabi.

Infectus have already confirmed the new producion of their Argon chips WILL have the flash already built in. Existing Argon chips will need the flash soldered to the existing points. Easy job for anyone who can solder.

I just ordered lots more Argons. It sounds like the extra flash ram is not really needed. Maybe soldering it on will be optional.
