Which Metal plate are you talking about? There is one solid metal plate, then there is another metal plate right under it with white slides on it.

The first metal plate you can take out, but the second you cant (cause its part of the dvd drive)

Will it be OK if I chose to do the left side?

Also, where can I find a replacement fan?

You wont be able to do the left side because the motherboard is mounted to the left side

As for a replacement fan....You dont see many replacement wii parts often, but ebay is where you would probably find one. If you cant find one, you can go to a local store that sells computer parts and find a fan of the same side and wire it up correctly
