Thanks a lot for your help guys. I guess my case is hopeless, because there is no way I have the technical expertise to open up my Xbox and fix it in the way that the aforementioned tutorial requires me to.
The biggest shame here is that I treat my systems very well. Heck, my old 8-bit NES is still in perfect working order! Shame on Microsoft for treating their customers so poorly. I'll keep you all posted on what changes if any the new power cord has. Apparently they are forged from magical properties that can erase all traces of corrosion on my motherboard!?

believe me in the scheme of things if this is the first thing wrong with your box, you got an awesome box. Give it the respect it deserves and poke around and fix her up.
