My Review Of Argon 13 Wire Wii D2c Mod Chip From Infectus
« Reply #60 on: February 16, 2008, 09:35:00 PM »

I am very new to the Wii scene, but am seriously considering getting one of these chips, just not 100% sure yet which one. I jsut read all this topic but couldn't see what the difference is between the Infectus2 chip and the Argon.

Can anyone list the differences. Do they both have the same features ?

Btw, I really just want to play all the emulators and GC games on my wii. I also heard that you play DVD and Divx on it also ?

Infectus 2 might be a better choice for you becuase for $70 you get a chip with usb update. With Argon you get a chip for $60 and if you want to update it you need injectus for a extra $25. The Infectus2 is a larger chip so it does not mount in the center of the board but there is still room for it in there off to the side.

I choose ARGON becuase i install tons of chips and i don't want people messing with the firmware and i use one injectus to update them all so i am saving good money. Also i buy the ARGON's in bulk and save even more. When Infectus makes updates they make them for Argon first and then 7-10days later for Infectus2

New ARGON firmware 1.5beta has been released yesterday and it should fix some issues with some gamecube backups not working. I have not tested it yet becuase i don't have any gamecube backups.

Yes thats Infectus 2. My diagram is for ARGON.  The wires will go to all the same spots shown in the No Leg Install they just have differnt Labels. Only exception is that Argon is 3v and Infectus 2 is 5v.

ARGON/INFECTUS WIIKTUS

RST =   G
B  =     V
G   =    T
C    =   P
E    =   N
R   =    R

I    =   Q
D   =   O
H   =   M
A   =   A
O    =  D0
P    =  D1
Q    =  D2
SX   = D3 (USA)
GND = GND

syntaxerror329, thanks for the helpful reply smile.gif . So do these updates come out reguarly with Argon ?

And what happens when no more updates come out ? How will you play the newer games if tehy make a protection for it and then no more updates come out for the chip, just curious.

Has anyone posted pictures of their Infectus 2 install?  I have not seen any yet, and am looking for where exactly they put the chip.  It looks like it wont fit in the same place as the Argon.

I am just waiting on my new solder equipment and I will be getting to the install eventually and want to be prepared.

hi ive been asked to install one of these argon chips on the D2C wii, and i've done a lot of reading over the net about it but im stumped at what is most probably gonna make me sound stupid.. although i dont have a berlingbrush, i was opting for the no legs install, using the via's (the lil holes connecting both sides of the circuitboard(?)).. my problem is that all of the via's little holes are completely filled in...  on all the pictures ive seen on here they are all open with nothing blocking them at all. have i missed something? on this chipboard the areas around the vias seem to be darker green (where something has been filled into them?) this is a strange wii though, it had absolutely no tri-winged screws..

i will probably give it back and say i canny do it but if anyone can help..?

I am surprised no one has mentioned this before. It would seem that nintendo has probably gone to more then one vendor for the DVD circuit boards. Some boards have HUGE via's that are almost big enough for you to stick a 30awg wire right in them. Other boards will have tiny vias. For the ones with tiny vias you still need to prepare the vias the same way except you will want to tin them all first with solder then attach the wires.  Also some boards have very thick laminate on them and others have almost none.

Basically if you have the board type with the huge vias you are crazy not to use the via install! If you have the small via's its a bit more difficult but i would still prefer it over those damn legs.

I bought a brand new Wii today at Wall mart and it had the HUGE via's so i thought i would take a picture with a bright light behind the board to show how easy these are to mod with the NO leg install.

IPB Image

If you get a board with Vias that big and you still want to do a leg install you are RETARDED!
(or very fast/experienced at leg installs smile.gif )

Here is a picture after install.

On boards with Huge VIA's i am putting point B on top. It saves work seeing as you clean the Via for point B when your cleaning R A and I

Seeing as the thread started as a review for ARGON then i think it is worth noteing that Super Smash Bros Brawl USA Backup is tested and working on ARGON. (tested on ARGON v1.8)

Here is how i did it,

Burned at 2.4x speed on cheap Memorex DVD+R DL 8x disks.
Used imgburn with layerbreak manually set to 2084960
Burned with Pioneer 212d

I have only played it for 5 minutes so i guess i still need to do more testing but so far so good.
