well i blame my self more, i could have left it opened and slowly done it my self over a few weeks.

and as i am preety much stuck for time tgoing to manchester is a no go. at least it still works like it is. and i have ordered a DMS version of the drive as it should work

You're waaaaaaaaaaay easier off with a DMS drive. "D2B with cut legs" is like the second hardest install as of now. But replacement-drives are expensive over here. Not sure how things are in the U.S. of A.

The casing of the chip doesn't melt. Its way to resistant to heat to be melting. However heat helps to scrape of the plastic material. It might look like it's been melted but thats aktually some flux (stuff that makes solder flow) on the chip. The guy used the flux to solder the wires to the freed traces, or in this case, he did not.

I got to go now.
Work awaits.

sheepie, I really do feel sorry for you. I'm relatively new to the wii mod scene, and have just got my wii installed with a YAOSM (D2B cut leg like yours). I was seriously worried about the install but got someone else to do it because the soldering is too complex considering all I have done is "breadboard" work. I sent mine off, and it was worth it for the risk and the money it cost - It works flawlessly. I live in manchester, but only know of one installer. I doubt it was him because he doesn't grind the IC cover. Wan't me to pay him/her a visit on your behalf ?  mad.gif

EDIT: Typing error

thanks but no, he refunduded me everything bar postage costs, isent him the wii, it came back on the 3rd day, with a not saying its sealed with question mark. and he refunded me full cost bar postage each way which i would say is fair. i could make an issue of it but i wont end of the day wii still worked, with the DMs version of the drive on its way to me i should be able to do it my self.

at the end of the day no human is perfect we all make mistakes, his was probably not telling me he screwed up, but modding/chipping comes with that risk. atleast i can play swg while the new drive comes, my back log imported gc games can wait

Sheepie, you really are being too sheepish.

Reputable modders would never pull a stunt like this.

This guy LIED TO YOU, and tried to COVER HIS TRACKS since he left the Wii in a state POORER THAN WHEN IT WAS RECEIVED.

He damaged your case and may have negated the possibility of getting your Wii chipped properly.

The correct thing to do in this case is to have him refund YOUR FULL SHIPPING COSTS, and also provide a replacement Wii case (original or aftermarket) since he damaged your original.

I would LOVE to know who this modder is, and I am sure many others here would, as well.  I strongly suggest that if your modder is reading this, he makes things right.

Precious few staff here would look down upon a crook (fraudlent service, lies, cover-up = crook) being outed, provided one wasn't making a crusade of it (spamming the Wii forum with new threads to complain, stinking up the BST with similar, etc).

Given the hand he dealt you and the way you've handled it, you don't have to worry much about dropping a name in this particular thread.

I hope your mod works out. smile.gif

well i did today, but word of advice dont try and mod some thing while baby sitting, it will drive you close to insanity

altho the ebay guy said it was early version of the drive it had point 3 missing ( like this pic http://www.wiikeygui...Diagram-D2B.jpg )mangaed to wing with a bit thich tip, tapped it onto the leg couple of times and its conecceted well. installed everything in new case the talismoon guide that comes with the case is nice and simple to follow. the dvd drive i didnt scew down as i didnt have the right sized screws as some of the kids ran off with the match box they were in, winged that as well with some duct tape for the time being.

i poped in the wiikey 1.2fw disc and it showed and error disc not reconised but it showed up as a GC disc in menu, same with 1.3 disc. but 1.9g disc worked (showed the bum pic) but after a bit it says press a or another button at which point i can use the a button on my wii mote for some daft reason. its playing wii originals and pakl gc games fine tho

Advice: Solder your connections instead of taping them.
Taped connections are bound to break.

It just needs a little heat and the tape comes off.

i only used leccy tape to cover the solder points just in case. and cover/stick the wiikey in place

only other times i used tape was for the outer shell as i hvae no screws ( remeber i had to drill them)

the connections them shelves are soldered, unless you mistook me when i wrote  to connect the wire to the 5th leg i gently did a tap with soldering iron a couple of times, thanks for your advice on the DMs drive tho works like a charm now biggrin.gif

Oh well, looks like I got the wrong Idea.
Taping down soldered wires is indeed a good way to keep the wires from breaking loose.

So I guess all is well. I'm glad you made it.

If you are struggling to get the screws out, and you have a replacement case, just hack your way through the plastic around the screw points (carefully).  It should't be impossible.  Once you have hacked the case away you can remove the screws pretty easily using mole grips to grip and rotate them carefully.
