Hey all,

This is my latest WIP, im planning on apinting a freinds Wii red (Pretty much the same as the colored Wiis Nintendo were planning on releasing). And yes, you can now make jokes about having red Wii.



I plan on turning the current white wii into the red one in the above pic.

Other things to do to the wii will be:

- Install a WiiKey
- Mod the fan so that it is on all the time (the wii gets real hot in standby, and il be using the tut from Sickmod's site http://diy.sickmods....nt_Overheating/)

- Modify the light bar so that it is on whilst the Wii is on.


Since im waiting on my Wiikey chip and tri-wing screwdriver to arrive in the mail, I took off 2 doors on the top of the console to do a test coat and to see what the paint looked like:



The pic looks crap, and that is only 2 coats (and the 2nd coat hasnt been sanded yet), i have just painted those bits so I can see what the paint looks like.

It should look great when its done, im going to take a lot of care with the paint so that it is smooth. Ill update the thread in a few days when my chip and screwdriver arrive (hopefully Wednesday)

Should be pretty sweet though. Are you going to paint the buttons as well? If you do, you'll lose the print that's on them (the eject symbol, the power symbol, or whatever is on the buttons). Personally, I'd leave the buttons and the SD Card door white and paint the stand white.

And why WiiKey

Yeah, the pics are crap and pretty boring atm (I shouldve had the flash on or something on the camera   ).

Im going to leave the buttons white, but ill paint the SD card door.

Lol, and im getting the wiikey cause its the cheapest chip I can get here (there doesnt seem to be many places to get wii chips in australia). Plus this is a launch Wii, so I wont have any problems with the new drive chipset or whatever the problem with the new Wii's is.

OK, an update. My tri-wing screwdriver and Wiikey chip arrived today, so I was able to pull the Wii apart and start painting. I think the Wii wins for having the most complicated insides out of the current generation consoles lol

Now, some pics: Please note some of the parts ive only painted once, so thats why the paint is a bit rouggh and patchy.











So, this is the first part of the mod done... I just have to install the Wiikey and do a couple of other things...

Also, a warning to anyone painting a Wii, make sure the words on the front (the Wii logo, eject, power and reset) are sandpapered off before painting, because for some reason spray paint doesnt seem to agree very well with whatever the words are printed with.

both Wiiboss and YoWii are made in Australia and both go for less than $12 never mind the fact that they're infinitely superior to the crap-tastic Wiikey.

way to not even support the modchip teams in your homeland

Damn, I really shouldve done some better research when I was looking at Wii chips... I shouldve also found out that Metriod Prime doesnt work on PAL consoles yet, before I ordered it and a chip... crap...

Oh, and I can play Metroid on it with the Wiikey. I just have to live with the duplicate weather and news channels after that update, but meh lol MP3 is a great game..
