Don't go with WiiKey.

Yes you can play DVDs via a homebrew application.

You'll need YAOSM firmware I believe.

I secretly run Nintendo-Scene.. but don't let any of the Nintendo-Scene "staff" members know that  ph34r.gif

That's good advice. Also, be sure to check the WiiTracker and see if you have a D2C chip, before you attempt to mod. Currently, no chips support D2C chipsets.

Pretty much all chips are just as easy to install as any other, if you do a wire install. A wire install is the best method IMHO. It is easier to remove, and diagnose problems, should one occur.

I personally recommend any open-source firmware on a PIC. I currently use YAOSM 1.8 on a 12F629.

They are all the same to install. Unless you want a quick-solder. I do not recommend that.

Buy a pre-programmed chip from someone (Most installers can sell you one for extremely cheap). Solder 5 points on the chip to 5 points on the Wii DVD Board, depending on the chip you buy.

Not like Wiikey just released a fat update.  What's with the D2C compatible Wii Mars, seen them new installation diagrams or what.

Wiikey has had an update "coming soon" since April and in that time both WiiFree and YAOSM have received 3-4 updates each..

the Wiikey update that's out now is a leaked beta update because so many people are screaming bloody murder over the missing but promised features that one of the beta testers let it slip.

They official update still hasn't been released.

As for Wii Mars it's just a Wiinja clone and their D2C support is likely a hoax.

You know if you read the modchip comparison chart earlier it tells you which one is the easiest to install  rolleyes.gif  just look for chips with a lower number of solder points.

they're all the same damn difficulty it's just a matter of how many solder points you'd have to do

Personally if difficulty of install is your main concern I'd say go with a wiiFree easy connect kit or xecuter wii free kit.

both use 5 point quick solder connections which are the flat out "easiest to install" without question (not the best but they're the easiest). and they come preprogrammed but also make it easy to upgrade or change to a different firmware if you so desire

not to mention they're both dirt cheap selling for under the $15 mark.

AFAIK there is only one dealer for the xecuter chip and they're in europe.

I don't think there are any us local vendors for the easy connect but I know XS Filter - 010107 -1 sells it (cheap) and ships to the US.
