My Wii Is Now Unmoddable Thanks To A Stripped Screw...
« on: August 10, 2007, 09:40:00 AM »

Where is this screw located?

If it's in the case.. then what you can do (which I did.. and it worked.. but may not work for your particular situation) is take my soldering iron and heat up the screw. The heat then melted the plastic around the screw. From there I just pulled the plastic right over the screw.. but again, Idk what your particular situation is.

You could also try drilling the screw out

Normally when i have stripped screws i just drill it out. You just start with a small sized drill bit, then keep on going up in sizes of bits, then the screw head just pops off

Try heating up a pen cap with a lighter and jabbing it on the screw to form a perfect plastic screwdriver. Unscrew without taking the melted pen cap off the screw. After you get the screw out. Throw the screw and pen cap away.

That is how I opened my Gamecube.

well, I think that pen cap idea is pretty good.

Thankfully I was able to get the damned screw out.  I just used a flathead, and forced it out.  Im about to start soldering now, I hope I do good.

Yes! Use lots of flux. Flux is your friend, and it only costs a couple bucks, to protect your $300 investment.

Without it, you can have cold joints. Just because it looks connected doesn't mean it is.

Usually, you don't need to clean up afterwards, but there have been some reports of problems when excess flux isn't cleaned up.

And I highly recommend a wire install, even if you are staying internal. Less mistakes seem to happen with wires, than with a quicksolder. Get 30AWG wire. A spool is only a couple dollars.

^your right, I cant do the quicksolder method.

I was originally intending to do a wire install, but my radio shack didnt have the right wires.

Im going to desolder it all, and post pics.  I just want you guys to tell me if I damaged anything or not, I dont think I pulled any pads.
