i have a related question:

if i only check wii weather and news after im done playing... can i set wiiconnect24 ON but standby OFF, and will it fetch updates while im playing games?  Im not too interested in it fetching updates all nite, but if it can fetch during gameplay then i wouldnt need to leave standby ON.. and keep the wii cooler right?

Yes. Standby off will still allow you to get the weather and news.

No need for this mod anymore, just update to latest firmware and it will have the fan on even in standby!

INCORRECT RUMOR

No, don't do that. The fan is meant to run on 5V, and it does its job.

Well, I just tested it and it didn't work. I could have sworn that it did for me in the past. I may just be having issues because I had a corrupt WiiConnect24 until this last update.
