OK, been reading nonstop tutorials for a couple weeks now. Plan on buying a 12F629 chip and running WiiFree. A couple quick noob questions first.
1) Is there anyway for Nintendo to detect this sort of mod (whether now or in the future through use of a firmware update), and how would they detect it?
2) If the answer to question 1 is yes, what could/would they do to my console (disable chip, brick Wii, ban from online, etc.)?
3) I assume, based on what I've read, that the Wii will return to normal boot mode if the drive chip is removed. Assuming that this is true, and being as paranoid as I am, could I then just install a small external switch to physically and completely disable the modchip (only turning it on when I wanted to use it)? If so, which wire or wires would I need to connect to said switch? Would I need to route all of the wires from the chip to the switch and then to the mobo (which I don't want to do if I don't have to, too many wires/very sloppy), or is there one or two wires in particular I could use to disable the whole drive chip if they were routed through a switch?
I figure that I could leave the chip off most of the time. Then, when I wanted to use it, I could disconnect my Lan adapter, flip the switch to turn on the drive chip, then turn on my Wii. Then, when finished, turn off the Wii, flip the switch back to off and reconnect my Lan adapter, thus avoiding (if I'm not mistaken) almost any possibility of being bricked or detected (did I mention that I am paranoid?).
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. - I do have a little modding (both modchip and case mod) experience (xbox1), but my knowledge on these subjects is still pretty limited.
