Just Got A Wii
« on: June 30, 2007, 01:12:00 AM »

Hey guys, I know a decent amount about xbox modding and I just got a Wii and am trying to pick things up.  I know with the xbox there are different install's needed for the different versions 1.0 vs 1.6 for example.  I noticed there are different install methods for the Wii and wanted to know if there is anyway to check what type of Wii you have with out opening it.  With xbox you can look at the serial number and compare it to a chart.  Is there such a chart with the Wii?

Thnx :-D

It seems like mine isn't on that chart.  The first few digits in my serial are:

LU 3160XXXXX

I just got my Wii yesterday (Thursday, June 28th), would I have the version with the missing pins?  Or has that not yet been released in the US?

thanks again, and thnx for the quick reply.

*Edit*  Ok, after reading some comments on the chart I noticed i will obviously have atleast the GC2R - D2B chip.  Anyway to tell if the solder points have been moved or if the pins have been removed?  Thnx

Now that i look at it....mine isnt on the chart either, but i was still able to mod it  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I think the only Wii's that have the 3 IC pins cut are the NTSC-J ones, and it wouldnt hurt to open your wii and take a look anyways

EDIT: i just saw your edit, and no i dont think any of the points are missing, but im not completely sure. It would be best if when you open your wii to just follow the traces from the solder points back and see if the connect to the IC pins

Maybe someone will come along and confirm that the points arnt missing, but i cant remember if i had a D2B or not

Thanks for the info, all the posts I've read about the missing pins were in May and said that the US Wii's had not been affected yet.  I guess I just want to find out if mines the first batch to be affected.  :-P  Only time will tell.

Thanks again :-D

Those Wiis have made their way to the US.

So its very possible that yours could be one of them.

Anyway to check by means of serial number or any other way short of opening up the wii?  I don't even have a DVD burner so I won't be modding it any time soon, I just want to know if it's a possibility.
