Wiikey Update 1.2?
« on: June 16, 2007, 11:04:00 AM »

Duuh, I just found it. Never bothered to look under /resources..  dry.gif

Anyway, I've downloaded 1.2 now and in the read_me it just says that I should hit the .bat file that matches my region. So I did, and it made me an iso. I'm burning it right now, but I just want to make sure that this is all there is to it. I see there were also two folders in the 1.2 .rar I downloaded. These folders automatically became a part of the iso, right?

^ If that is indeed what they did, I would say they were pushed out by the clones market. The speculation I read, is that they cannot code to keep the clones out from also getting an update.

I wouldn't want to help the companies that were undermining me either. Although, it is also abandoning their current customers. Their current position isn't one I would like to find myself in.

Clones are bad mmkay.

Not that I support Wiikey (I'm all for the open source Wii modchips personally) but I find that highly unlikely.

Consider that the currently un modable D2C chip was discovered being produced in Wii consoles just days before the Wiikey update was planned I would imagine they simply delayed it to include support for that chip.

If they were going to screw people over they would have no reason to keep their site open.

Also if they're planning on not making the upgrade because of clones... that seems rather foolish... just release the update and state that you'll no longer make updates for that model chip... then make a new chip with protection for that sort of thing.

Most of the "updates" to these chips are total BS anyway. The only worthwhile updates are support for new console versions, and that doesn't really matter if you've already got a compatible console.

I disagree.  They could have relased yet another update for the D2C.

Shutting down the website would be a sure sign of what they appear to be doing and would cause retailer to cancel orders.  By keeping it up, they can at least sell of their remaining stock.

I have purchased a few things in the past where updates were promised, deadlines were missed, and schedules were vague.  In every case, the companies ended up shutting down within 6 months and no updates (or crummy updates) were released.  Whether it is an intentional scam or a result of poor business practices, the result is the same.

While I hope Im wrong, I see the same thing happening here.  It has been over a month since they stated the update would be out within one week.  Deadline missed, no reason for the delay, and an empty apolgy is all they provided.

Yes, they were cloned, but thats no excuse either.  The xbox 1 had a number of modchips which could all use the same software. I know many people who purchased one modchip and used the software from another.  If you want to keep sales, make a quality product that compells people to get the original rather than the clones.

If they dont release an update soon, hopefully they will have some dignity and at least post the sourcecode so their customers can start an open source movement.  Heck givin the popularity of the clones, I bet posting the source would raise the demand for both the clonse AND the originals and they could just sit back and make chips while others develop the code. But I doubt they would do that...
