Wiikey Disc Read Errors
« Reply #15 on: May 09, 2007, 04:35:00 PM »

Just tried out some backups today...had some troubles booting up backups...some just refuse. But I have successfully booted up some. So I'm assuming it's the brand of DVDs I'm using. I'm using Memorex DVD+Rs. I could only burn at 6x (lowest possible). So idk...

I guess I should go for some Imations?

Memorex Disks just SUCK period CDR,DVDR , they just suck for just about everything IMHO, except maybe a coaster for a beer and they aren't even that good for that use, condensation and whatnot!
Sorry, I am not going of on your post I just REALLY, REALLY, REALLY HATE MEMOREX DISKS!

+Rs cause problems anyway, from what I read. Use -Rs.

The Wii is very picky about it's media... especially DVD+R's. You should be using good quality DVD-R.

I havn't had a single DRE using Verbatim DVD-R and burning with ImgBurn @4x, highly recommended!

Also remember that using cheap media can be hard on the laser. If you're getting DRE's it means the Wii is straining to read the disc and it could reduce the life of the DVD drive. It's worth the extra few bucks on discs to not worry about replacing a lens later on imo.

Listen to KrimsOn.
Verbatim's will probably work best for you. Most people say that DVD+R are not good for Wii. I on the other hand have had the best luck with the Imation DVD+R's. After this batch is done with ( about another 60 backups) I will probably go with something else. I still don't know why the TY's were so bad for me. But I swear by Verbatim +R's for the 360 so If everyone says -R's are better for Wii than get the Verbatim -R's. It makes good sense, get good quality branded DVD's( If they don't want to put there name on it then they have no faith in it either).

I use +r's at 16x to burn all my wii setup discs and backup games and haven't had one issue yet. Good quality dvd's though so it seems as though it all comes down to the quality of the media wink.gif

Btw, nice post count (for future reference it is/was "1337" tongue.gif )

Everyone with their media experiences, please post here:

We can try to narrow down the best media for the Wii, if people help out.

Haha, I would never have noticed. I screencapped it.

I got a spool of 50 Sony DVD-Rs from Best Buy for 13.64 (tax included). Burned at 4x with Imgburn...games work flawlessly. I'm really impressed. Games work first time, no problems what so ever. I'll make a detailed post in throwingks' thread later.

Having the same problem, with some back-ups. What i did is switched it off then on again and it loads, not all the time tho, what could be the problem? is it the disks or burner?

what are the best disks to use???

Sounds like media , I was having that problem sometimes with the TY's.
If you are using IMGBURN turn the VERIFY OFF.
