hope it doesnt take too long to get to the uk

theres a cheap pic programmer on the maplin website (aprox £21)

would this be sutible?

before you go out to buy a programmer, talk to your local university/college.  I've contacted my local university, and they said they have a picprogrammer i can use.  If you can get them to program it to you, the entire chip is free.  MWAHAHAHA!!!

yeh the uni go to will prob have one, but i would like to do several for my mates and be able to update the software myself, so would benefit me owning one

it doesn't matter, those are just the form factor of the chip... though the /p is the easiest to work with.

I'm surprised you didn't socket it outside of your console (can run the wires easily by the usb ports).

Hey guys just a heads up.  If any of you ordered a JDM programmer with a Zif socket off Ebay w/ no Smartcard reader then you may be running into trouble flashing your chips.   Error at 000h and strange verify results.

Sure is, you will just need to solder that wire and you are good to go.   If you need a hand with the settings in ICprog let me know.
