Thinking About Getting A Wii
« on: February 25, 2007, 07:31:00 PM »

Hi, kinda maybe thinking about getting a Wii. Don't know if I really want or need another console (got a 360, and Xbox1) but I was reading and apparently you can download some classic games like Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Golden Axe, etc. All games that I LOVED. But I'm wondering how downloading the games works, much the same at the XBL Marketplace yeah? And I might face another problem, I don't actually have a TV to use the Wii on. I use my 360/Xbox1 on an Acer PC LCD monitor, would I be able to use the Wii on this monitor too?

Oh and what's the deal with the remotes/controls? I like the look of the classic controller, to be honest, but would I be able to play the new Zelda game with it?

Cheers!

Check if your PC monitor has a video in for composite or S-video.  If so then you should be able to hook up your Wii to the PC monitor.

forgot to say that not much games have support for a regular controller AND the wiimote/nunchuck. Most games have just support for the wiimote/nunchuck. I'm almost sure you can't play the new zelda with a regular classic controller. Although thats the point of the wii, is to use the new controllers. Thats what wii is all about! pop.gif

lol, good point. I'd just feel like a bit of a goon waving my arms around at the screen though I reckon. tongue.gif Might not be really worth it for me then, seeing I'm only really interested in the classic games. Thanks for the help though guys, much appreciated.

Don't knock it until you try it.  I thought the same thing but you really get immersed in the games due the the fact they are played.   happy.gif

Yeah I had no clue how fun a wii was until I got to try one. I played that medical game in Gamecrazy for about 20 minutes or so. The first 5 minutes I had no clue WTH I was doing  laugh.gif  After a lil bit though I got the hang of it. Before I even knew it I was into the game and didn't even think about how stupid I looked standing there in a store waving my arms around  laugh.gif  After playing about 20 minutes I realized I'm hooked and have got to get one (whenever they are in stock). Funny thing is that I probably played the most boring game for the wii (a surgery game, come on it can't be but soooo fun) and still had a blast playing it. Will be awesome to play it on my projector when I get it.

Alot of people seem to also not like the wii due to it not being a graffix machine. Although the 360 may have alot of games, alot of them suck. I don't care how good a game's graffix are, if it's not fun I won't play it. One of my favorite all time games was Super Mario Kart and still to this day I play Dr. Mario (on my XBOX1).

Wii rox and that's my 2 cents  smile.gif

I agree with you but i have not played that game yet.  I played wii sports and was hooked on that. There is NOTHING like playing bowling on a projector that outputs the size of a wall.  Now ive got wii play and am more addicted to that game then the wii sports even though it got a low score, its very fun.

well im guessing u would just hook it up the same way u hook up ur xboxes... or do u not use them... either way for me i have  Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500 MCE which runs about 140 bones. obviously u can buy a VGA adapter for less i believe... but either way i got that bad boy allowing me to watch TV and record at the same time VIA my computer. then i run Intervideo Home Theatre and that allows me to hook up my wii via the composite hookups... i think my way was the expesive way around but i have a media center PC so its all worth it.

and as for the wii... it kicks ass and honestly for 250 bones... its worth it and more.

to sum up...

VGA adapter...

or

Tuner Card + TV playback software...

both ways work and for me... i chose number two. pop.gif
