Picking Out The Perfect Dvd-rom
« on: October 28, 2007, 07:39:00 PM »

I've seen quite a few replacement DVD ROMs out there, and would like to know what everyone recommends.
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVD-ROM-Driv...X/dp/B000BUCCAU is the one that seems most appealing to me by it's description, yet I'd rather trust the consumer instead of the seller.

Burning abilities? Are you planning on writing software so the X-Box can make use of them?

There are three "standard" drive types, Thomson, Phillips and Samsung. While the Thomson drives are usually the worst and the Samsung drives often the best (as far as X-Box drives go), the truth of the matter is that none of them are really any good.

The only way to say if any given drive will do what you want is to stick the discs in it and find out. If you can't do that prior to purchase, make sure you get a guarantee. Also keep in mind that what works today won't always work tomorrow.
