it better auto update in standby mode... anytime the Wii tries to connect to the Nintendo servers it's PAINFULLY slow...

after setting up the console it seriously took 42 minutes to perform the update... after staring at the update screen for about 10 minutes I popped on a TV show and just checked on it every few minutes.

after 40 minutes I turned it back to the console I though it was maybe frozen but I didn't want to power it off and screw it up mid update... while thinking about what I wanted to do it finally completed.

Checking out the Wii store was equally as painful, 2min+ to load the next page and ever 2 or 3 pages I'd get an error message  dry.gif

it's not my connection either because Xbox Live is FAST, my friends typically have me host when we play online simply because I've got the best connection.

...I guess you get what you pay for.

As far as i know, you just recently got yours. more people must be connecting because when i hooked mine the day after launch, it was very fast and it went right a way.  Hopefully they start speeding up things.

Thats wierd? My Wii is lightning fast when online (store and updates) , my PS3 on the other hand......................evrytime i gotta update that thing its about 60 minutes +. Ive spent more time updating my PS3 then playing it. There must be something else wrong with youre connection or interference?

Apparently it didn't auto update... so I started the update at 7:00 it's now 7:42 and the status bar looks like it hasn't even moved.

The Wii is in the next room over from the wireless router, the only other WiFi device I have is my laptop and that's not on at the moment, the only other RF device I have on in the whole house is my cordless phone but that's 1 floor down and at the other end of the house... I just unplugged that and it didn't make a difference

The only other RF devices I even own are GC and 360 controllers and those are in the basement and off.

besides my laptop has never had any problems connecting  sad.gif

DAMNIT I want to play this thing but I'm afraid to turn it off/stop the update

yea, mine is in a room next to my router and I don't have a problem with it at all
if you have copper pipes in your walls, that will do it
my updates generally take about 1 to 2 minutes

p.s.
glad you finally got yours!

Mine is about 5 feet from the router and it also takes 30+ minutes to update.

The forcast channel is pretty nice! It's not too useful in Southern California, but still fun.  tongue.gif  It would be nice though if you could enter in zip codes instead, to get information for every city, not just the bigger ones.

Interference doesn't make any sense... because my circa 1999 laptop is sitting right next to the Wii and getting an "excellent" WiFi signal...

After watching the bar go no where for 2 hours I tried doing something... hitting the home button gave me the option to return to the dash... so I chose that, the screen went black and the console wouldn't shut off... I could turn on and off the remote, insert and eject discs but the console was unresponsive otherwise (wouldn't even accept reset and power on the console itself). i had to physically unplug it. After that it booted right back up. I checked the wireless connection settings for what is probably the 20th time and everything looked exactly how it should. After the test it asked me if I wanted to update so I thought what the hell and started it again...

This time the bar actually moved... it took another hour and a half to update so I went and did something else for a while  dry.gif

once it was done I checked out the Forecast Channel and it was pretty cool, it didn't have any problems loading up or anything. Just for fun I decided to try the Shopping channel again and it was quite responsive, only taking 1-2 seconds to load between screens as opposed to the 1-2 minutes it took before with the more often then not error message.

I don't know what happened, I literally didn't change any settings at all.... I really hate wireless networking.
