For a while now, whenever plugging this xbox in, I had to press the power plug (the one at the back of the xbox) to an angle of sorts for it to get power. This worked ok for a good while, but now I can't get it to turn on at all.

I opened it up and the power port seems loose.

This is a 1.2 xbox. Any ideas here?

Common problem, which is why they issued the "recall" power cord. It didnt fix anything, just covered their asses. Its easy to fix..... http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox%20...%20tutorial.htm

Well that is a great place to learn as it is a very easy repair. Be very careful with that power supply though, as the main capacitors store a large amount of power. Let it sit for approx 20 minutes unplugged before handling to allow the capacitors time to discharge.

Crap, I have to go buy everything in that guide. I can't find my isopropyl alcohol anywhere either.

I bought this xbox off a friend just a few days ago for $40, little bit of regret now. Oh well.

Should I practice on some old hardware first? I got old PCs that should be good for that..

Ya you can practice on something else first, but that is a real easy repair as the solder point is huge and not close to anything else. It also really cant be damaged by too much heat (well within reason). It is definitely the simplest solder repair to do on an xbox.

Well, alright. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I'll pick up some solder and a 30 watt iron tomorrow. Maybe i'll try and hard mod this xbox later on too.. it's a 1.2, unlike my last xbox which was a 1.6.

Fixed. One of my friend's dad did it for me, he showed me how. I'll buy the stuff and start doing this myself. Cool stuff.

Was just gonna do new thread bout this very prob, but thanks 2 the forum and those kind enough to reply, I've no need..

Yet to try it but its a start..

This really doesn't happen to me often. Usually I spend several hours googlin the prob usually to no avail..
